Here’s another image from the civil rights era. Maybe take a second to consider if there are any parallels to how the media portrays protests today, and whether it’s a worthwhile use of energy to run every political action through a focus group.

I’m sure the band wasn’t thrilled about a 2.7 that painted them as Sufjan Stevens copycats (they predate Sufjan Stevens! 😡)

Seriously. I remember seeing they had reviewed my favorite album at the time, and even though it was a withering takedown, I was still like “whoa, they made Pitchfork!”

I still think a big part of their success was that they had 4 (5?) record reviews *every weekday*. They covered a lot of ground including stuff no one else was talking about

Fwiw the writer later wrote a short piece apologizing for it and acknowledging that P4k always knew the decimal point rating system was kind of silly

I realize I’m not blowing any minds here, but if efforts to mitigate climate change “go against God’s design for nature”, what does that make literally every advancement since the Industrial Revolution? God intended for us to strip mine the planet but not to work for our own survival?

Flogging Molly at @firstavenue.bsky.social was my first ever club show. Could not see them from the back of the room through all the cigarette smoke (pre-indoor smoking ban 😷)

Also seeing them on the main stage at Cornerstone 06 with the giant trash bird remains an all-time live music highlight for me

One of the several times I saw them at the Triple Rock in Mpls (Ten Stories tour?), Aaron announced that he had achieved the high score on the pinball machine and dared anyone to try and beat it. It was an absurdly high score, like 100k above #2

People need to find another reaction to generative AI beyond performatively saying “this looks like dogshit” (even if it’s still mostly true), because it’s also true that the tech has advanced by leaps and bounds in the last few years and is already at the point where dumb people believe it’s real.

A hip taco place in Minneapolis recently opened a second location in my first-ring suburb... to uniformly middling reviews 😏

I’m still blown away that he was pressed about this in an interview, almost literally responded with “who cares about small businesses?”, and got basically no blowback for it

It’s absolutely new harm imo, an LLM is set up to validate and fuel basically any kind of crackpot theory or mania you may come up with, and it sounds authoritative while it does so.
The post in the last screenshot gets to the heart of it: at no point does it say “what are you talking about?!”

Yep - tariffs on China have existed for awhile so lots of products get shipped to Taiwan or Vietnam for final assembly. If the assembly is a “substantial transformation” you’re in the clear.
