The distances are still nowhere near as large. The odds of success decrease significantly when you factor in reaction time.

None of that issue exists in Iraq and Jordan, as there is no contested air space limiting those flights.

The distances are wildly different is the big reason. Also having a buffer of two "neutral" nations willing to scramble and base US assets is a big deal.
Being able to intercept without fear of hostile air defense provides a larger buffer as well. You're not overflying Sumy to intercept
