The United States has become a shithole counry.

I love the little notes my wife leaves for me.

I wanted a tattoo to document my health journey, but I decided that my surgical scars were more authentic than any body art I could possibly imagine.

Would I burn the USA flag to protest administration policies? No, because flag-burning can easily be dismissed as anti-American and anti-patriotic. Fine, but the First Amendment doesn’t protect only speech I agree with. This is a fundamental principle that self-proclaimed patriots should learn.

I could be angry, and I am. I could be afraid for the future of my country, and I am. But mostly I am sad.

I've seen a bunch of references to this, but I hadn't seen the post itself until now. The menswear guy intentionally, riskily revealed that he's undocumented—that he's a DREAMer—as an act of public solidarity and witness in the face of our current fascist ascendancy.

Is it impossible for people to be kind toward each other? I mean, John Lennon told my generation that years ago. I paid attention to him but I guess he’s just out of fashion now.

@trace247.bsky.social I feel I want a tattoo that documents my feelings about my current life/health/family situation. The issue? My perception changes over time. I am afraid that body art will become obsolete as my perception evolves. Is this a common fear? That a tattoo will become obsolete?

If American voters don’t trounce Republicans in the midterms I am drinking a bottle of sour mash whisky to commemorate the demise of the Republic.

Paid the ticket price for the latest - last? - Mission Impossible installment. What a mess! The obvious choice for the leading supervillain role was Esai Manuel Morales Jr. (who killed it!) but he was relegated to obscurity because of a stupid focus on a confusing AI theme. This movie is not good.

My big error was thinking that social progress was inevitable. That was some Pollyanna bullshit I told myself to feel better. There is no inevitable arc toward social justice. It’s not happening simply because time passes. Justice takes hard work. Work with the people who need it.

I am NOT saying that The Atlantic is the only mainstream media outlet with a spine or the only mainstream magazine with writers of stature commensurate with Anne Applebaum and Tom Nichols, but you should consider subscribing. Because it’s that good.
