I wonder if @mcuban.bsky.social is thinking about this like a capitalist- catering to a hyper specific demographic means a natural limit for demand, especially if politically moderate users get turned off by the louder, more liberal voices on the platform. Makes sense, but that’s also X in reverse šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

The X / Bluesky dichotomy is real, but also, in a country as polarized as ours, is anyone really surprised? I’m only here because it’s not controlled by a profit hungry billionaire’s ideological algorithm šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Has anyone told @schumer.senate.gov that calling it the ā€œbig, ugly billā€ isn’t as cute as he seems to think it is? Word play isn’t going to save us from this disaster any more than fist shaking or strongly worded lettersšŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

At your age, ā€œstandingā€ must be a real accomplishment šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
comment in response to post
If that was your goal, you are grossly unqualified to meet the current moment.

Is anyone else wondering when we went from ā€œinnocent until proven guiltyā€ to ā€œprove to us you aren’t guilty?ā€ In the absence of a judicial proceeding, isn’t the burden of proof on the government to present evidence of fraud or misappropriation? Oh wait.. I forgot that was when we were a democracy.
comment in response to post
I think he’s saying what he’s going to do is stand. Every post is about him ā€œstanding up.ā€ I guess at his age that’s a real accomplishment šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
comment in response to post
Again with the ā€œstanding againstā€ā€¦ Social media posts and fist shaking do not constitute resistance.

49.8% of voters*** Still… They were still elected to represent the populations in their states / districts. When Obama was elected, the GOP didn’t say ā€œoh well, try again next time.ā€ They fought like hell to be obstructionists. Being out of power is not synonymous with being powerless.

If the police witnessed a robbery and just said ā€œwe’ll just wait to see if they turn themselves in,ā€ would you not demand those officers be replaced for failing to do their job? Citizens can (and should) criticize the efficacy of a public servant when they’ve failed to protect the public they serve.

Are you just chipping away at this one issue at a time? I mean, credit where credit is due, we’ve been asking for you to do something and this is technically something but will it succeed? Is it part of a broader plan or strategy? Why does it feel like you’re all just stumbling around in the dark?

@schumer.senate.gov is the geriatric equivalent of a toddler who just keeps asking ā€œare we there yet?ā€

Do you think you’re some kind of celebrity where all you have to do is show up to an event, say a few words, and your work is done? You were elected to legislate. Stop making pointless media appearances and START LEGISLATING.

They don’t seem to see the difference between symbiotic and parasitic relationships. Their economic ethos has been ā€œtake as much as possibleā€ since Friedman and Regan pushed shareholder primacy as the singular goal of American capitalism.

Sorry, we’ve been too busy telling Dem senators to grow a spine. Stop shouting about what’s happening and tell us what you’re going to do about it. If you expect to reclaim either chamber, you need to show the American people you have a plan ready to be put into action.
comment in response to post
Sure hope some of the Dems with legal backgrounds are steadily building a case against this administration. If you want to reclaim control of the chambers, you have to show the American people there’s a plan ready to be put into action.

If only standing was enough

How about you try ā€œDemocrats in the Senate will work tirelessly to convince our Republican colleagues not to vote for this bill. Cracks are forming and we have the skills and experience to exploit them to tank this poor excuse for legislation.ā€ It shouldn’t be this hard to communicate your plans…

If only waving your hands in the air was enough to stop democracy’s death spiral šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Remember when democrats had both chambers and did everything in their power to safeguard our institutions? Yeah, me either.

I’m all for tearing Democrats apart for their incompetence but I believe RFK was confirmed without any Senate Democrats. Some did vote to confirm other picks, though. They can’t seem to let go of their precious ā€œnorms,ā€ which is infuriating to watch as Republicans seem content to walk all over them.

Now imagine if you tried exploiting the razor thin Republican majority by using your decades of experience to pull votes away from the bill rather than posture and shout nothingburgers into the social media vacuum…

At least this post says something about what you’re doing to combat this… Credit where credit is due, I guess. But please recognize the need for stronger leadership in this moment. This is not okay.

Either she’s trolling or she genuinely doesn’t understand how a single occupancy restroom works. So is the issue that other genders are in the restroom with her, or just that they may have used it at some point? Because one of those things feels a lot like a call back to segregationist propaganda…

I feel like he wants to reopen it so the US has its own version of CECOT. When sending US citizens to El Salvador gets struck down as unconstitutional, this’ll be the next move so they can continue to imprison people without sending them to another country. I’m betting he wants a judge to be first.

Seriously šŸ™ŒšŸ» I’m tired of the people out there acting like there’s nothing democrats can do because they’re not in power. Like… have you not been paying attention to how Republicans got us here over the last 25 years??
comment in response to post
This is exactly the problem. Democrats are too afraid of their precious rules and norms to do anything that’ll actually rise to meet the current moment. And for some insane reason, there are people out here who think calling them out for it is a sin against humanity.

No. Because you came at me in my comment and I am having a dialog while you sling insults. Don’t tell me to attack the republicans while you wield their bully tactics like some internet troll.

This is the fundamental underpinning of American Democracy. When the people don’t feel like their government is representing them, it’s the people’s right to protest, vote, and call for new leadership to serve as their voice in local, state, and federal governments.
comment in response to post
Thanks, I’m good. I, like many Americans, are exercising our first amendment rights by calling for new leadership that can rise to the current moment and demand more of our government.
