Very proud indeed. Congratulations to your son too ❤️, Katharine. These kids are incredible. I especially admire that they have the discipline it takes to not just learn the material, but also go through the writing and editing processes at such a young age.

A couple of days ago, I thought about what you must be thinking about all of this. Interesting times. I hope you are doing well with M&T.

A lot of things are out of our control. In these times, there's something deeply fulfilling about capturing in words what makes someone amazing. Writing the letters, reflecting on the incredible accomplishments, strengths and potential of my people have me so energized rather than drained.

doi.org/10.1002/saj2... Most transformative scientific solutions often emerge from curiosity-driven research, not just problem-focused/use-inspired approaches. #Soil science's greatest contributions will come from maintaining intellectual freedom to truly understand 1 of Earth's most complex systems

doi.org/10.1002/saj2... Just as astronomy studies celestial objects w/o limiting itself to space exploration applications, #soil science must maintain its identity as a fundamental natural science that explores Earth's complex living skin across scales-from molecular to continental.
