A good general rule is: (most of the time) We need to be careful when we have a strong desire to make Scripture mean to us what it didn’t or couldn’t mean to its original hearers. And if we have a strong desire to make it so, we need to check our motivation.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God…

One of the sins of the Churches in Revelation? They had sound doctrine but no love. These should not, CAN NOT be separated, if we are to remain as healthy churches connected to the life giving message of Jesus.

I sense that one of the messages of the Book of Revelation is: “Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.” Psalm 146

If we think of Revelation as a book only of stories of the past or only predictions of the future we miss out on the timeless messages for right now. Each generation faces temptations of Babylon anew. Each must choose to bend a knee to that kingdom or embrace the Kingdom of God.

If Jesus is Lord, then Caesar is not! Caesar didn't like it then, nor do they now. Babylon promises power as long as you bow a knee, and if you don't, it will take it by force. Jesus promises life now and life eternal. One is a threat, the other is an already fulfilled promise.

The Book of Revelation is less about being raptured out of this world, and more how to live in a Christlike manner in a world where power and prestige seems to dominate over meekness and humility.

I wonder what the Christian life would look like if we actually took scripture seriously: “Do all things without grumbling and disputing, in order that you may become blameless and innocent, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation…”

Like Adam in the Garden, David when confronted by Nathan, and Peter asking “what about John” we all want to blame others for our sin. Of course we remember the words of Jesus “if your eye caused you to sin, blame it on the girl in tight jeans”…

The radical Christian message of a shift from hierarchy, power, and position to mutual submission in marriages, parenting, and “un-level” relationships was a radical message 2000 years ago, It is still a radical message today.

Some belief is written in pencil, some in pen, and some in blood. Anytime we treat things in pencil, as the same as written in blood … we have done a great disservice to the Gospel!! Paul has strong words for those of us who would tie extra baggage on to the Gospel of Jesus!

Not everyone who disagrees with you is evil. Some are, but MOST, in fact, are not. I refuse to attribute nefarious motives to everyone who sees the world differently than I do.

Hanging out with this BEAUTY at our first date night in a long time! Brad Paisley’s “Truck Still Works” tour!!

Speaking on sex this week. To be honest, the research I’ve done over the past few weeks is weighing me down. I had to leave my computer and take a walk with Chera. We have taken a beautiful gift from God and taught so many mistruths and believed so many lies, we can’t enjoy it.

I encourage you to listen to people who aren’t like you. Who don’t look like you, believe like you, act like you, or talk like you. And don’t listen to respond, but listen to understand. You’ll be amazed what can happen when you humanize those you disagree with.

Jesus has conversations something around 70 times in the book of Mark. During those, instead of answering the questions he's asked, he asks back a question around 50 times. We often think of Him as the man with all the answers, but it seems he was more interested in asking others questions.

Some Christian teachers: Everyone should be married and have a family immediately. That's the only way. Paul: Don't get married, it's lots of trouble. I wish that all of you were as I am. Single women are way happier... 😂🤣

God asked Adam and Eve "where are you?" in the garden not because He didn't know where they were, but because He wanted them to know he was still seeking them out despite their failure. Your failures cannot stop the pursuing love of God!

A timely quote on the differences of the kingdoms of man and of God: "In sharp contrast to an earthly tyrant who brutalizes his subjects into fearful submission, God lovingly and patiently involves humanity in the work of reconciliation." C. Smith and J. Pattison "Slow Church"

I put together a list of what biblical manhood is and isn’t. It is: patient, kind, and forgiving It isn’t: envious, boastful, proud, rude, self-seeking, or easily angered It is: always protecting, always trusting, always hoping, always persevering. Hope this is helpful!

Preview for Sunday’s sermon: Marriage is amazing. It’s also hard. Singleness is amazing. It’s also hard. Both have ups and downs. Both can provide fulfillment and both can be lonely. Both are states of life that can be used of God and fruitful for the kingdom.

I never listen to a celebrity about politics, theology, or medical stuff… Unless they agree with me. That’s how I know whether they are worth listening to or not.

...the collapse of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty into subjective processes and private preferences is inextricably linked to the collapse of meaning in the modern age." -Stephen Turley "Awakening Wonder: A Classical Guide to Truth, Goodness & Beauty"

I have a speech impediment. I stay away from most words with “rl” sounds. ( ESPECIALLY WORLD) I stutter. More pronounced with I’m anxious or exhausted. I had my tongue clipped in HS and had to relearn words. God called me to preach. He sees things we don’t.
