I say try it. Use warm water (that's either distilled or has been boiled) and a quarter teaspoon of a 3:1 saline:baking soda solution. It is an uncomfortable and disgusting experience. But it can work. You can start with an otc saline spray if you don't want to dive all the way in yet.
