Dispatches from the World is on Fire: Part of my job is helping other church people feel like their professional life management isn't so very on fire. Especially given that ministry is often putting out fires, even when the world is Less Bad. -

What does the book of Job have to do with Moby Dick, Elijah, and this coming Sunday's Gospel where Jesus casts out demons? There's some careful storytelling afoot in all of these –

Hey @fathertim.bsky.social, Legion is on the lectionary on Sunday. Any chance you still have Tree's doodle of the confused demon pig under the sea that she gave you? (I went looking for a picture of it because it's just so silly.)

Talked about Ireland/Scotland too much today so now my brain is holding a “Hosting of the Sidhe” recitation…

Did the cursed-fortunate thing: failed to restore my multiple windows full of open tabs when I restarted my browser today and now that I've realized, whatever was open in them is lost. How long have they been open? Longer than is even a little reasonable.

I think I kept it not-too-heretical for Trinity Sunday!

I really don't have the capacity to deal with having increased issues with what was previously very minor, one-sided carpal tunnel. It is now very much on both sides and less minor.

Comfort media and dumping salt into my body to try to push my systolic BP measure up over, oh, 102, while I tackle this to do list.

I'm unusually proud of my Pentecost post this week – and for my Godly Play nerds, it includes a good look at the new Peter stories!

A little poetry and mysticism for you this morning –

Check me out remembering to post my newsletter this week -

Insomnia has brought me to my freshman year college roommate (who is now a tenured professor)’s small time booktube video. Who knew!

“To sit with and explore yourself, to recognize different aspects of yourself freely and without hindrance is a radical act.” We Are Not Free: @annelllopez.bsky.social interviews Roberto Carlos Garcia about Traveling Freely (Curbstone Press). ➡️ https://buff.ly/3WJ1e65

New planner setup time is good for my orderly little brain life.

Newsletter is up with the proposition: what do we do about the miracles we don't receive – especially when those miracles are front and center?

8.5 years of marriage, almost 18 years of knowing each other and every so often I still learn a new thing about my wife/her international childhood. This morning I learned she had never heard of the McDonald’s Monopoly game.

Newsletter is back from its Holy Week/Easter I break -

Today is "do little tasks til noon and then enrichment time in my enclosure" day.

I am not amazing with teenagers; I am finally old enough that they don't just see me as a weird overgrown kid. But one of the church moms asked me to contribute to a video birthday card for her almost-16 year old and I am really transported back to what being a church kid was like for me then.

Happy Easter, pals. In honor of Our Lord & Savior's resurrection, please enjoy some of my favorite internet personalities being especially weird while trying Easter candy.

starting a band called brazen rat, my first album will be called "bad news for people who like good news" but it will just be me, reading the news

Mark Strand’s special commission “The Seven Last Words” has been a piece of my Good Friday for many many years.

Good Friday here means that my work bag includes a hammer, a jar of vinegar, and a jar of salt. The bedsheets, cotton balls, and building blocks are already at work. I still need to go buy helium balloons. Children’s ministry, my friends.

Happy “They very much did kill Jesus” day with thanks to our old tumblr pal Diana.

Jesus, the donkey, and I are ready for Palm Sunday!

Because last year Easter was so early, I have spent this whole program year assuring my kids that no no, it will be warmer this year. (They ask a LOT of calendar questions.) It's not only at least as cold, but it's snowing today, so I guess I lied.
