Wow, I totally bought into the big pharma conspiracy and wasted thousands of $$ on insulin when I could have just done *gestures around* something to mind control an internal organ. I can’t believe the medical community kept this from me! [sarcasm, in case that needed saying]

The second paragraph is my response every time someone argues for repealing the ACA or against universal care by saying “I don’t want to pay for everyone else’s healthcare bills.” Um, you already are and have been for years. (Also people having healthcare is good/cheaper long term.)

Except almost no one can do this bc it is time consuming/expensive. Even with the time/skills to do an extensive lit review, not all articles are accessible w/o an academic library. What he means is, go on the internet and listen to people who aren’t experts but confirm your pre-existing opinions.

When I was using Duolingo to learn French I would get phrases like “I have 19 children” but this is funnier. Neither seem to be a top phrase needed for tourism or polite conversation 😂

I want to add that I study ultra-processed foods, so I’m aware of their upsides (microbial safety, shelf life, cost) and why they’d be useful for large school lunch programs and food banks. Just wanted to point out another way in which this admin is sacrificing its stated goals for slash and burn.

Also most nutrition research will discuss bias (outside of stats) - recall bias, selection bias, social desirability bias, etc. - describing potential limitations in self-reported dietary data.

People misunderstand the difference between the scientific process, which slowly, haltingly gets ever closer to making true statements about the physical world, with "beliefs now held by scientists", which are snapshots of stages in the longer process, and as such are often erroneous.
