So this is cool.

We are excited to announce The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a new sci-fi action RPG based on The Expanse. Become a captain of the most advanced ship in the universe, gather a crew, and challenge one of the most powerful enemies humankind has ever faced. Watch the trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIQi...

There’s this cognitive error that comes from growing up with a default narrative of redemptive violence. When I see a fight, I reflexively think of it as the good guys vs the bad guys & have to remind myself that the two sides fighting aren’t necessarily the two sides I should care about.

I always tell up-and-coming novelists to use Locus to make sure they're up on the latest SFF news -- deals and deliveries, which agents are worth your time, forthcoming blockbusters, etc. Essential for writers and anyone else who needs to know. Check out their fundraiser and donate if you can!

Running out of time to support the newspaper of record for science fiction & fantasy. See if maybe they have a thing that might justify throwing them some dollars: www.indiegogo.com/projects/loc...

Come for the analysis of Zuckerberg’s latest fiasco. Stay to hear John Cena announce “I am arrested for statutory rape.” Good times, good times. www.wsj.com/podcasts/the...

Want to hang out and also support a pillar of the sff industry? I donated a zoom chat to the Locus fundraiser. igg.me/at/locusmag2... @locusmag.bsky.social

I am coming to the suspicion that there’s nothing on the Internet that provides a better experience than a book.

There’s a level at which I find the major petrostates looking to pivot to a non-oil economy kind of heartening.

Thinking a lot about the joys of an intellectual life and how to cultivate them.

Posting the IMDB link with the full cast and crew. I am so proud and grateful to everyone who worked so hard on this show. www.imdb.com/title/tt3044...

I'm doing a Reddit AMA today 5/14, answering the questions at 6:00 pm central time: www.reddit.com/r/television...

Yes, yes, yes, via @adamserwer.bsky.social: The Trump administration always has the option of bringing Abrego Garcia back and *trying him for removal through lawful channels.* That they refuse to do this shows they have no serious case against him. Read: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

I’m trying to find a phrase to describe an important phenomenon: When we fix a problem, we forget it. Pop culture forgets, and the mass media forgets, and young people never learn about the problem or how it was solved. Can you help suggest a name for this phenomenon? Read more here:

What if the world doesn’t end?

Anyone using AI for anything should start by asking themselves two questions: 1) How often does the llm deliver inaccurate information? 2) How would it affect my business for these processes to be unreliable?

Or that they are already tired of wading through bullshit.

Using LLMs to write is like using a hydraulic jack to lift weights.

Bullshit engines.

OpenAI's "most powerful system" makes shit up more than half of the time. For its "o4-mini" model, the rate is ***79 percent***

One of the things find weirdly consistent across human endeavors is this: we’re much better at knowing there’s a problem than we are at identifying what the problem is or how to fix it.

Okay, so this is my jam. If accurate, that is awesome.

Man, some days are rougher than others.

This is fantastic news, and for screenwriters and directors of a certain age a bitter reminder of the omnipresent “foreign sales guy” at every studio who nixes every movie with a lead of color because “they never sell overseas and they can’t make it up domestically.”

The Hero’s Journey has a lot to answer for.

President Trump’s approval ratings on immigration, relatively strong in the early weeks of his second term, have dipped into negative territory, according to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, a sign that his administration’s hard-line enforcement tactics are losing public support.

Bingo

Thinking about the career of Sen Durbin has me thinking about a larger issue: how politics has, during my adult lifetime, become a form of show business. Which is not much of an insight, of course. But we don’t talk enough about what it really is, or, should be.

Anyone who internalizes this line of bullshit will absolutely always be outflanked by people who know how to actually do things

hey everyone, wanna watch my tv show “the middleman” on streaming with no added charges?

I’m struck by the idea that subjective reality is built by mapping disparate datasets to each other. All that time we spend as babies messing with our hands is coordinating visual, kinesthetic, and touch database in ways that build the shorthand prediction of “hand.” And similarly, everything else
