That or marching, apparently. (Which is fine tbh, it's not the 18th century.)

Just got tear gassed, alongside another few hundred Angelinos. There were clearly no provocation, protestor violence, or risk to the police. Just senseless violence to intimidate us

A good time to repeat my unpopular opinion that every single US history class, from elementary school through high school, should start with Appomattox in 1865 & the Compromise of 1877 as the foundational events of the current Republic, & work backwards & forwards from there.

As a reasonably well-educated and well-traveled person, I don't feel like I need to be lectured to about "living in a bubble" just because I'm selective about whose opinions I take seriously and don't want to waste my time with every random fool.

Diminishment of the non-US contribution in Afg always makes me think of 40 Commando Royal Marines in Sangin in 2010—a battalion that lost more men than all but a handful of US ones, including Paul Warren, who died on this floor, of a barely-platoon-sized outpost: archive.nytimes.com/atwar.blogs....

An AI-generated video of a National Guard member filming himself on duty in LA and provoking the protesters is being shared on TikTok. The video is fake. The odd badges on his uniform, traffic lights and buildings, and "LAPC" on the police car all give it away.

Within 48 hours of my arriving in Iraq for the first time in July 2007, I went to a memorial ceremony for four 2ID soldiers killed in a house bomb (HBIED) in East Rashid. That was a regular occurrence in AQI strongholds at the time. Nobody contemplated razing neighborhoods to avoid the risk of it.
