On the topic of English prime ministers, I do say that England’s greatest prime minister was Lord Palmerston

I also started disengaging from Twitter in 2021/2022 so lost the thread of a lot of online discourse

The concept of intellectual variety sounds nice but considering the state of conservatism in the US is currently led by Trump in reality I don’t see a rational academic falling into that category

Yeah I actually enjoy it here now. Tried moving when Twitter became too painful last year but there wasn’t much. Now it feels like early twitter.

What’s the TLDR on why Brianna Wu is so hated? I feel I have missed a few steps there. I seem to remember several years ago she was Good but now she’s Bad? Is it just the Israel thing or is there more to it?

It’s not the guy. But also that’d be hilarious if they’d totally run out of leads (which it’s kind of looking like) so they try to trap him with a lookalike prize

I think you know it’s not just you nor is it a far left position: “protecting the NHS” in the UK is a bipartisan stance. The rest of the developed world has far simpler systems that don’t result in this exploitation.
The US system is fundamentally broken and people mistake it for “the free market”.

Yes, someone else will do it who didn’t make that choice. They are a bad person. They will also stop doing it when it becomes distasteful enough. That’s how societal change happens.

The world is a big complex system with lots of interconnecting parts that ends up like it does because everyone just follows their immediate incentives. For many people, it’s money. But that doesn’t mean you have to. You have agency! Part of a shitty system? Leave it!

I was with them. Tbh US healthcare is so fucked it’s hard to unpick what is them versus the hospitals versus the pharma companies vs the prescription companies, but yeah I’ve had several thousand held up for years several times. Can see how someone might snap
