I spent a whole four hours today writing my tabletop rpg system out more and I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing this dream together. Still way too much to do but having it be hex-based and constantly relooping in the same mechanical concepts helps keep it concise (unlike my prose).

Congrats to everyone who showed off a game today, and the dozens or more folks who're working towards their release this summer. Making a project is a tremendous feat. I personally am excited for Mina the Hollow and encourage everyone to check out the demo on steam!

Really happy with how the Avowed section of my portfolio site has turned out. A lot of really beautiful moments I was thankful to build with some incredibly talented peers who will become industry titans someday. It's nice to be able to gush about it. (Ask if you'd like a link, not sharing here.)

if we casually chat about playing games together someday, and i never reach out to you, please understand it is because there's a little voice in my brain saying 'they don't actually mean it, you shouldn't annoy them'

I've never seen a game crash the steam store servers. Deltarune did it.

When you build a world full of noise, you can only expect for someone to get lost in it. "Yellow paint" really turned into the only thing thing we can agree on for blatant visual pathfinding, and ironically has shunted level design efficacy back by decades. Like a film shot with way too many extras.

There are two wolves inside me One is craving hibachi One wants nachos My wallet wants me to eat home cooked spaghetti and frozen meatballs.

That’s not the rule and you know it.

I think it's an interesting puzzle in sci-fi to ask why certain designs became popular. The trap of "Well this is the most effective/efficient design for the machine" is tempting to stick with but almost all machines are designed for biases about style and comfort, often culturally motivated.

unions: they get the job done

there’s a funny paradox to me in creative work which i call “the horse shaped box.” basically: lead wants to give IC a space to work within, with constraints. but the constraints are extremely specific; “you can put anything you brainstorm into this box!” but the box is shaped exactly like a horse

THIS IS SO REAL this goes for every single creative medium I've ever touched. Learning to do it the "right way" first is a paralysis trap. Advice is only useful after you've fought with the thing its about. Go, do the thing you want to do and do it poorly. Do it for you. Fuck around & itll click

A little art forgery treat for y'all. I present: the artifact (for which a collector paid $80k in 2008) and the scientific report (the most politely worded way of saying "you paid how much for limestone with a little concrete slapped on it?" I've ever seen).

Made some Magic: The Gathering cards

Years ago I reviewed the Midea U-Shaped air conditioner for Gizmodo. This week, the universally beloved pick for best window air conditioner suddenly got pulled from stores everywhere, right before the summer months. I may have figured out why for @aftermath.site aftermath.site/midea-u-shap...

People keep asking why The Onion is doing well right now, and it's simply because we just refuse to kowtow. I cannot stress enough how good it is for your business and your soul be strong and even fun in the face of the ongoing horror and bullshit. www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/st...

Maybe this is the year I get a tattoo.

Yet another really easy justification to stop playing Fortnite appears...

I need you to understand It wasn't "We trained a machine to be Darth Vader, and then it started saying homophobic slurs." It was "We found a machine that says homophobic slurs, and prompted it to act like Darth Vader."
