A parable for hard-working citizens. adamleebenner.com/2025/03/04/t...

I'll say Adam Levine. Think about the world's many problems and you'll find Maroon 5 somewhere near the source of them.

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!" Trump isn't the one you need to focus on. He's the misdirect, so the real sleight of hand – bolstering wealthy right-wing interests and putting the sword anything that runs counter to them – can happen unnoticed.

American Jesus: "The first shall remain first and the last shall remain last. Anyone who disagrees is a woke socialist."

American Jesus: "Be on your guard against the DEI hires and the immigrants, for they come to steal the meager wages the company executives deign to give you."

American Jesus: "Blessed are the CEOs, for they shall inherit 400 times the salary of the average worker."

American Jesus: "Blessed are the greedy, for theirs is the kingdom of capitalism."

Headline I want to see tomorrow: "Alcohol says it's 'relieved' to no longer be associated with Pete Hegseth"

Headline I want to see tomorrow: "Gulf of America appears at circuit court to legally change name back to 'Gulf of Mexico'"

Turning empathy and mercy into sins is transforming God into as petty a human being as we are. Because *we're* the ones who thirst for vengeance and retribution. *We're* the ones who relish the thought of others being punished for their sins. *We're* the ones who dehumanise the other.

A reason it's so hard to find Jesus in today's white American evangelical churches might be that they've got a real issue with DEI hires.

Contemporary white American evangelicals like to claim to practise 'historic' Christianity (as though a simple straight line can be drawn between them and the apostles). And if things like the Crusades and Manifest Destiny are 'historic' Christianity, then I suppose they're right.

I'd rather listen to hundreds of 'so-called' Bishop Budde's 'boring' sermons than listen to five minutes worth of Trump's mindless drivel.

I've read Luke and Acts any number of times, and I'll be honest, I'm still struggling to find any of Jesus's anti-immigrant or 'America first' policies.

Chatting up the Palestinian bloke who runs our favourite falafel shop, who said to us, "Be a good person, and leave the rest to God." And I needed that today.

I would rather choose the way I want to live each day than worry about what Trump may or may not do. adamleebenner.com/2025/01/19/w...

He understands we just make this shit for free, right?

Here's what irrational fear of the other and petty jingoism get you.

This is now officially the whitest thing I've ever seen. And that's including my cousin Cindy's late-80's wedding in Kentucky.

I'm currently 10,174 miles from the inauguration. And I'm not sure it's far enough. If anyone's heading to Antarctica, can I get a lift?
