Oh yeah I don’t think every game has to be accessible, and games can be “hard”, i want the sickos to be happy too, I just hate the trend of putting those mechanics in a lot more mainstream stuff whether it thematically makes sense or not, where it just suddenly totally alienates a ton of people

For people Bad At Reaction Timing, it’s sliding gaming towards being more inaccessible for more people and that’s really stupid If it’s optional/can be ignored or disabled and it isn’t core to the main loop, and you aren’t screwed without it, it’s totally fine, but it’s required so damn always now

That makes it hard when people want to treat the games like they weren't political. It is a privilege US citizens just got to not think about all that. I'm excited to see a tournament like this again one day, ideally in a world where you have gotten rid of the lunatic threatening to annex my country

I'm not really going anywhere in particular with this, just, if you enjoyed the hockey, I'm glad you got to! I was sad that I watched very little of it largely because the US rivalry yapping, while normally playful, felt super insidious and cruel when it was all 51st state and governor Trudeau jokes

Nothing about this was fun. Well, except the part where we won. That did feel good. It made me cry. I just opened our front door and screamed out of it, and heard a ton of people doing the same thing throughout our neighbourhood. Winning this game definitely meant a LOT more to us than it did to you

I'm a typical Canada boy, I love hockey, played it for years. I really enjoy the international competition & the rivalry, it's fun. It resulted in some awesome games. But this series came at a time where your president/admin is threatening, bullying, and ferociously disrespecting us every single day

For those of us in Canada it's very difficult to articulate how hard this was/is. Imagine how it would feel if your sovereignty was being threatened by the most powerful nation in the world, and the hockey watching population of that nation just joined in and made jokes about it the entire time

That said hope you and anyone else watching is enjoying the game! I am staying away from it for my mental health but it had all the makings of an all-timer (and FWIW definitely looked like the US strongly deserved being the favourite going in)

This tournament is very cool and the games are fire but as a Canadian I have been getting horrible vibes from the US games. A lot of 51st state and annexation jokes flying our way via those, and when there’s an actual real threat to our country’s sovereignty, it isn’t a joke for us, just feels awful

Also super feeling this exhaustion a ton here in Canada, can’t overstate the amount of fear and anxiety just underpinning every interaction with friends, family, and colleagues. It takes a lot of mental effort to get past it and get anything done honestly. Take care & all the best, rooting for you.

My first fidget toy from a friend who understood me was beaded bracelet and I used it so much eventually one day it exploded, I never emotionally recovered from that

They’re physical games, I log them manually in a (really good) app called BG stats! www.bgstatsapp.com

1. PACIFIC DRIVE And my favourite station wagon that could, that crummy little car falling apart all over the road as aliens steal all my things and I'm just trying to make friends with my dumpster long enough to maybe gET SOME RUBBER FOR ONCE. This game has it all. HAPPY NEW YEAR SEE YOU NEXT TIME

2. ASTROBOT The boy!!!! Goddamn the music in this game is so good! Every level was charming and fun and I was legitimately sad it was over by the end. Mad me feel like a kid!

3. FINAL FANTASY VII: REBIRTH Joke's on you I loved kingdom hearts so I'm primed to completely adore this game cover to cover (This makes it sound worse than it is, it is incredibly good)

4. UFO 50 I'm only halfway through this collection and if I kept going I'd probably find enough bangers that this would have ended up even higher. But wow. It is good

5. BUCKSHOT ROULETTE Another lovely indie success story about taking a really great simple idea and drawing folks in super deep somehow in only 15 minutes. Multiplayer also slaps!

9. ANOTHER CRAB'S TREASURE In a sea (lmao) of soulslikes Krill won my heart over with a really tough game, great accessibility options, charming characters/world and the ability to strap a gun to the lad. Amazing

it's 3mp and needs you to roll pretty well to cast, so the cost/risk of it tracks imo with spells like courage (for lesser cost/risk restores all of your/party's stamina) or staff of courage (spend crystal to refill party stamina) Anyway could be wrong, I'm not a designer but that's my best guess!
comment in response to post
I played this recently! Can't say definitively but the way this reads to me is "all players restore 10 stamina & 10 magic". A bit weird considering other cards in the game just say "recover all X" when they want you to full heal, and the tracks all only go up to 10, so sort of the same thing, but...

I cannot believe you are still having to put up with this man, I'm sorry

I used to but then I just had bags of cardboard tokens sitting taking up room in storage that I never looked at again… so at some point I just stopped that and usually just recycle them now. Sometimes I’ll hide extra components under the insert if there’s a sneaky way to do that
