I try to take an even-handed approach, but Israel is on a killing spree, and we need to stop it. A total trade embargo might be a start. Stopping the USA feeding cheap weapons to them would help too. If the genocide in Gaza was not enough bombing hundreds of sites in Iran is ridiculous.

Thank you for inspiring me to try again. I now have remote development working using Toolbox rather than Gateway. A Bluesky post is too short to talk about how, but I wrote a Blog post about it at admoss.blogspot.com/2025/06/jetb...

I was excited about Obsidian until I tried to introduce it at work. It needs a paid licence at work. So now I use Logseq. Corporate doesn't like it because it is not a Microsoft product, but they can't really stop me promoting a free solution that boosts productivity.

When you pick the best people to administer your government you must expect they will be better than average at administering their own affairs too.

AI is known to exhibit political bias. Who can forget the hilarious examples of Woke responses from the major players in the past couple of years. Recently the Deepseek model was banned from most western government use because it "may contain information that is not in their national interest".

War was the game, but Capitalism brought the toys. And to one of the most densely populated places on the planet.

If you are the victim of a crime is your first thought to make a speech to Congress about it, or to call the police?

But that was not real capitalism that did this:

At least we get to choose between flavours of propaganda now!

By contrast "What are the worst things the Republican Party have ever done to the people of the USA?" results in detailed 10 point list of damaging things and a positive summary. All AIs I have ever used have bias. Google, Microsoft and OpenAI were Woke and gave crazy responses recently.

Nice try, but what it actually says about the worst things is:

Traditionally by bringing gas fired generators online or increasing their output. But Victoria is running out of gas so that will not be an option for them in the future.

Germany shut down 3 nuclear plants, then experienced a dunkelflaute. Sweden and Norway were furious as it doubled energy costs across the European grid. Sweden is now building a nuclear plant.

Nauru is where we send illegal immigrants who try to come here by boat. My contribution was increasing the number of immigrants we invited to come here legally. Funny thing is, we transferred a bunch of asylum seekers from Nauru to the USA. A few months later they applied to be returned to Nauru!

I had to look it up to make sure you weren't pulling my leg. You really live in a place called Fort Dick. Thats gold.

I prefer to be myself wherever I am. Saves the stress of pretending to be someone else. If you are interested in why I interact this way type INTJ into Google.

Well done. I've only personally helped 20 refugees resettle in Australia. My work with the Liberal Party of Australia in the 80s and 90s did help thousands to travel and settle here legally. But over $1million per year in fundraising deserves congratulations.

If you are ever in Toowoomba, Australia, check out Wednesday Night Rock at the Irish Club. I started it up and it is still going strong 10 years on. Has anyone else founded a successful real life interest group? Surely some of you high-follower-count BlueSkyers has a real-world achievement to share

You don't seem to understand that solar does not work at night and wind is unreliable. Did you have a reliable form of renewable energy in mind? Please let us know which one.
comment in response to post
No.
comment in response to post
Victoria has already experienced blackouts in winter when renewables failed to deliver. While nuclear is good for base load, it can be ramped up fairly quickly at 1-2MW per minute.
comment in response to post
In my case I used to work on maintaining base load with a coal fired steam generator and fire up gas burning steam generators as needed to meet peak loads. We also had an oil fired option but it was too expensive to run except as a last resort.
comment in response to post
I have. There are solar panels above me right now. They aren't producing any energy because it is night time. Fortunately there is sufficient base load available to ensure the fridge will run all night. Not so in Victoria in winter. They need heat then.

That wasn't very inclusive of you, was it? May I suggest the block function? Here is something I prepared for Facebook : youtu.be/oU9IFdSDVx4?...

That is the wonderful thing about bidirectional public forums. Nobody has to ask me. If you don't like what I write, block me. Here is something I put together for Facebook : youtu.be/oU9IFdSDVx4?...

Base load is defined on numerous technical sites, eg "The base load is the minimal amount of electricity needed during a 24-hour period. Power must be supplied to components that are always in operation (also referred to as continuous load). High demand is experienced during peak load."

OK, the last Netflix series I watched was Black Doves. The scene where the gay triggerman is taking it up the arse from a man he met in the bar was a bit contrived. Ever see straight white men mentioned in any DEI course at a corporate level? Ever see a poster inviting people to include them?
comment in response to post
I don't think you do. I am probably the least sensitive person you will encounter. I gave you a reason why people dislike DEI evangelism. Then I suggested a way it could be made more palatable. But don't mind me. I'm only an accredited LBTQ+ ally with a degree in Human Resource Management.
comment in response to post
Depends on how you present it.
comment in response to post
Base load is that supplied when the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't glow. That happens frequently on Victoria. Some forms of base load power can be quickly increased. Gas and nuclear for example. Others are slower, like coal.
comment in response to post
Well there is a lesson in this for you about venting in a bi-directional public forum. I once drove 200km to plug in a printer cable the person at the end of the phone swore was firmly plugged in at both ends. You get that.
comment in response to post
If only that was true. It is all DEI is supposed to be. Try to find a recent drama series that does not force us to watch what are essentially rare and private interactions between people. Perhaps corporate DEI should allocate some time to helping minorities deal with the unmentioned majority.

Victoria plans to wean the state off gas over 20 years with increased electricity use. A 15 year nuclear timeline fits in well. Renewables can’t provide the base load and needed during the Victorian winter. There have already been blackouts when wind and hydro could not cope at night.

It describes the usual process of adding a new Apple device and suggests a reason this may not succeed. I have a fair bit of experience helping older folk with technology. Feel free to offer better advice.
comment in response to post
That is pretty hard to do. When introducing a new Apple device it says to put it close to an existing Apple device and log in to the existing device. They shake hands electronically and the rest is automatic. I suspect he had already lost the use of his old devices and was too embarrassed to say

Victoria is a strange State. They know they are running out of gas but they will vote against nuclear energy.
