watching a guy without a helmet ride a motorcycle at 50MPH+ with no hands as he eats a meatball parm and i’m happily nodding along until i see his first bite location and that’s when i’m actually shocked and outraged

Stale now, but takes made more sense years ago when kubernetes wasn't as much of a first-class citizen in public clouds (particularly AWS) and the rate of change in k8s ecosystem and core resulted in unpredictable, high maintenance costs. But yeah we're well into the plateau of productivity now.

That was another I'd considered, but was scared off a little by tales of file corruption under NFS and Talos docs seeming to recommend against it. But love the simplicity of it, def gonna give it a whirl now on your recommendation. Thanks!

To clarify, I really don't need replication for HA. This is just for fun and I'm really just considering the convenience of not having to restore from backups every time I want to wipe or replace a node. (Though I suppose that'll help ensure my backup process works!)

I have a 3-node cluster, all refurb mini PCs, so very modest specs. Talos running virtualized on Proxmox. I don't have NAS available and don't think I want to spend the money. So the question is, am I the fool to not be installing e.g. Longhorn?

Tbh I don't think anything is a hard requirement for elected office except "intends to do the job in good faith". Cuomo doesn't give a shit about NYC, he wants to be mayor because he thinks he deserves it.

A few weeks ago, I forgot the word “speakerphone” during a hearing and called it “the big phone we can all hear.” I don’t feel so bad about that anymore.

That is also valid! It's a wacky one, would honestly be curious whether it plays today. But an Important Text in my childhood, so there you have it.

Dancing Mad is legendary. Such an incomparable, towering piece that it's hard to believe it's originating from a Super Nintendo. ... the Lil Jon mashup ain't half bad either, honestly: on.soundcloud.com/xZsY4FlJoc8M...

Any West Point instructor will tell you, punching people in the *side* of the head is the very essence of tactics.

I come back to it every few years. Soundtrack, ensemble cast, plot arc, and main villain -- all bang to an unparalleled degree.

Unless you count Tactics, because Tactics goes so hard

You can always count on a Thomas opinion to bring absolutely nothing to the table.

I think it matters how much stock you put in R's threat assessment. There's a case to be made that they're not constantly and at all times behaving as canny analysts and can, in fact, lose sight of the optics in pursuit of one-upping their fellow ghouls.

It's easy for me to say this as a guy with a toddler, but this is really one of those services that people who don't currently need ought to be heartily cross subsidizing for the people who do. Public school is a no brainer and public daycare has almost exactly the same cost/benefit analysis.

What rules about The Acolyte is that it, for once, provides a compelling vision of the dark side. One that's actually seductive rather than purely coercive. Real talk: the bathing scene is a strong visual reinforcement of that theme. Everything with Jason hit with me that season. It really did.

I mean, I sure hope so. But that only works if they see self-preservation as a necessarily collective endeavor. If they can just keep their head down and avoid trouble...

Oh, I'm a lil bit smitten with this piece. Well done! Lots of interesting ideas to ruminate on here. And it resonates while still reflecting a frame that's in some ways distinct from my own -- but only, I think, because our brains might be wired a bit different. Which is right on topic!

Would you agree that Trumpism is well to the (authoritarian) right of the country? If so, wouldn't a media reflecting a moderate viewpoint reasonably be expected to report more critically on this administration?
comment in response to post
No single person or institution will make Trump "go away." This does not imply that they have no power and influence, nor that they are free of obligation to exercise it in accordance with their public statement of values.

I think the point being made is to humanize them in order to understand and *exploit* common human weakness. Not a tool for empathy but a strategic weapon.

Also, an inhibiting thought is also a thought, and is often more powerful and indicative of character than a weird intrusive one.
