But... what if the output from my desk job could be taken away from me at any moment AND/OR suddenly devalued to the point my family couldn't eat? Hard to devalue the caloric and nutritional value of a carrot growing 3ft out my back door.

My dad (who passed away 20 years ago....though he was young by most modern standards) was a cobol guy. Before they were engineers and just "computer programmers." He was also dyslexic. But as he said "long as he was consistent lying wrong in the same way, it worked."
