Not sure I get the analogy but yeah, its gonna get much better for sure. I think its gonna get more interesting when vibe coders start learning to code and we start seeing new talent emerge from this space.

It’s almost as we need a higher level programming language :)

I’m my experience, lots of code is just intent and meeting notes transcribed into code. In this ephemeral approach doing that should be avoided as you risk loosing that information next time you roll the dice. So instead we only write requirements and tests? Should we ever express intent in code?

Interesting approach. I can see this becoming our new relationship with code on some level. But at the same time I find it hard to imagine what that would look like in practice. Requirements and tests would need to be strengthened and more verbose. Should implementation become an opaque box?

I think the first step is realizing that work doesn’t really matter that much. Don’t get me wrong - your work is stellar and the world is a better place because of it. But it’s not worth trading your health for it. Especially since you have so many years of health ahead of you. Take care ❤️

I’d only argue fentanyl is overuswd for medical. My ex wife was put on fentanyl during child labor at KP even though she asked for epidural. It turned out fentanyl did nothing to stop the pain it just made her not care. Eventually she got epidural she asked for and it made labor much easier.

Still I would never suggest “stop writing code for humans” simply because it is extremely important that humans can understand and audit code written by ai.

Excellent article! I was getting ready to bash on your clickbait title but it turns out I agree with everything you wrote. Most patterns are what I find useful for myself and ai too.

Same! I have 2 NAS servers with 2 drive failure tolerance (one at my parents) and I do rsync on them every few months.

I get some comfort from the fact that my content is archived in a zip file somewhere on my NAS - hopefully protected from oblivion. You should download your Twitter archive - Because contrary to popular belief, internet does forget.

I hate deleting history and I've been a data hoarder as long as I can remember. The decision to delete my content was paralyzing but in the end I had to do it. I'm not gonna go over the reasons here, some of them are personal.

Expect Uber price surging and horrible traffic (basically rush hour). Better rely on Bart/Muni/Caltrain

Needless to say, chicane offshore was playing on repeat during that period.

I was 13 when I saw it. Shortly after, I dyed my hair blonde, started rollerblading, playing Wipeout 2097 and learning cracked 3D Studio Max.

Riding along the nostalgia express, this took me back to my first Siggraph! I remember feeling like I finally found a place where I belong. I also fell in love at that conference… And landed my first job with LucasArts.
