I first learned about this in Mary Crow Dog's remarkable memoir Lakota Woman.

You are a brave, remarkable woman. I admire your refusal to be intimidated by these idiots.

One which nicely complements Ghandi. "Don't ask what a good man is, be one" (Marcus Aurelius). Though many other Stoic quotations possible including the one on my Bluesky profile.

Had the enormous pleasure of talking to him once after a performance of Hamlet. A delightful man.

Certainly twirling. Could be the pinot noir...

That should be "stiff upper lip" of course Amanda. Embarrassing for an English teacher!

I'm British living in Minnesota. (At least we have a good Governor). Therefore stuff upper lip time. Doesn't look too good in a portrait however. Also I read the other day that this phrase originated in the US.

OK. Where shall I begin? This is a challenge... So I'll start with my five favorite American films: Dr Strangelove, Taxi Driver, The Searchers, Smoke Signals, Dances with Wolves. Now I'd like list my five favorite European movies!

Free Leonard Peltier. Three words that spans generations and goes ignored. A political scapegoat. I’m sure if a felon can sit in the white house and share intelligence with our adversaries a pardon isn’t far fetched or unwarranted.

Hope the beer is warm. It's often so cold here you can't taste anything! One local brewery/pub offered to fill a pitcher for me in advance if I called ahead so it could warm up a bit in the meantime.

I've done my best (not enough...) while in the US. I'm English, taught in the U of Wisconsin. Delighted to be offered a course in Native American Literature. Native students recognized that I was sympathetic and invited me to be Academic Advisor to the NA Council. Not bad for an Englishman.

Stunning photos. And in themselves a resistance to the abuses recorded in the accompanying text.
