Don't they call this a "Paul Ryan". Stick around long enough to push through your shitty tax cuts and then stroll over to a nice gig with the corporate types you just handed a handout.

It seems we are not likely to agree on any of this. And most assuredly, i am uninformed and constrained by my own narrow thinking. So be it. i'll go back to writing trivial posts about Beatles songs.

My point is still that the Ds are NOT a left wing party just because they're to the left of the Rs. The progressive wing of the Ds would be considered centre-left anywhere else & the mainstream Ds are to the right of centre-right. So, the "centrist" position between D & R is still right of THAT.

Sure. Fine. i'm still trying to make the same 1 point, and you're still trying to make the same 1 point. So... fine.

i shouldn't keep jumping in, but i can't help thinking; The very fact that Build Back Better is considered a move to the left kinda underlines my main thought on US politics. In no other Western democracy would it be considered particularly radical or extraordinary. Your whole field is shifted right

i agree that the tendency of people on the actual left in the US to do this whole purity test thing with mainstream Dems & let MAGA win is indeed dangerous. i am further left than mainstream Dems but i'm not surprised or disappointed in them. My lefty friends are often further left than i am.

i'm sorry, wasn't it 45 that negotiated the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan ?

Yes. The point i keep making is YOUR centre isn't between R & L but between R and further R. But i'm a bit obtuse. i keep thinking you don't get what i'm saying. A; maybe you don't. B; you do & this is your response. C; i'm a dumbass & you're poking me to see how many times i'll repeat myself.

No, the Dems have not moved notably to the left. Not on the economy, not on foreign policy.

And if i were American i would have been happy to vote for Harris. Proud to. Knowing that she wouldn't be all that i want.

Sure. i'm not putting them down. i'm not American. i don't get a vote in this. i'm pointing out what i see as an outside observer. i'm a centre-left Canadian. MTG would call me a Commie. i don't see the usefulness of terms like centrist if we're talking about a point between right & further right.

Okay... i know that in US politics there's an idea that blue & red are opposite ends of the spectrum, so by definition Dems are left cuz GOP is Right. But there is an ACTUAL left, ranging from mixed-economy to Marxism, & even progressive Dems are barely on that side. Even Sanders is centre-left.

You don't agree with him. His idea is going to be more cuts. He's living in an Atlas Shrugged cosplay fantasy.

i agree with the sentiment, but who is Paul F. Haaker and what is this Canadian public radio he works for?

Ya, i definitely see him going in another direction with this. Massive tax cuts for the wealthy, huge loss of revenue for government, that's all fine. It's those pesky government expenditures, like any remaining social spending of any kind. These are the unconscionable inefficiencies he objects to.

Yes. Nothing's going to get better fast. Chito Mussolini is just the poster boy. The fragile-ego delusional moron poster boy. Also somehow the charismatic poster boy. Without him some of the daily weirdness stops, and also some of whatever it is that seems to appeal to people.

When you say left, do you mean Democrats? Andrew Cuomo?

Yeah. A real asshole. But until the details of his private assholery came to light, he was a decent interview-er.

i used to want to see him in a jail cell. Now i'd settle for a massive heart attack.

i'm sorry, i know this is horrible and scary, but it's also hilarious. i mean, if this wasn't actual behaviour by actual people it would be a ridiculous story. It being real makes it just that much mire absurd. The Monty Python fan in my can't help but laugh at the insanity.
