With an independent body setting electorates, there is no gerrymandering. The problem is voters putting 1 & 2 for Labor/LNP which perpetuates the 2 party cycle. Vote everyone else as 1&2. Put Labor/LNP last but your preferred big party above the other is the only way to go.

Because the rate of exchange is wrong, and always has been. Why are levis $110NZD in australia but $120NZD in NZ? Neolibs claim it’s to stop Aussies buying cheap in NZ. But now, with uniqlo in Australia, it’s cheaper for NZers to fly to Australia and stock their wardrobe

Australian roadworks have about 1 cone every 50 metres. Australians like to slalom through them at night. During the day though? People can see that far ahead to know not to go back into the left lane.

Except Australian Greens ought to have had 18 seats but for PV. Australias electorate voting system should be transported to NZ for electorates, but keep single tick for the party list seats. That way the worst FPP element is removed for electoral seats & means that someone with 50% wins. Not 33%.

All those new immigrants that can vote after 1 year being thankful that “National” let them into NZ, no doubt. Central govt elections should be citizens only. Local govt open to PRs cos at least they can’t stuff up an entire country.

Hipkins is milquetoast and needs to step aside. Kieran should be leader as he has the mongrel that is needed but the media will latch onto his personal affairs to ensure he won’t be PM and the pearl clutchers will be all “oh my”
comment in response to post
Unfortunate that nobody in the NZ mainspread media has the intellect to critically analyse this bill and explain its dangers. That taxpayers will be on the hook for any future law change that could cause a “potential” loss to private sector is utterly farcical.

Should have what Australia does and mandate that no less than 15% of homegrown product is sold to the local market before export. It will lead to a rise in supply, and therefore reduced prices.
comment in response to post
Nah, Albo at least is consistent and has actually read things before commenting on them.

Hipkins is firmly embedded on the right of the Labour party That he said at his Remutaka pre-selection meeting “I was the only kid on my street with shoes for school so I understand the hardships for those without” has always been tone-deaf.

Compulsory voting means you turn up at the polling booth and get ticked off as having voted. Draw a penis on your ballot if you don’t want to actually cast a vote.
comment in response to post
You don’t tick in PV. You number every single candidate in order of preference.

Labour last did it in separating telecom into spark and chorus which paved the way for UFB (and NZ has great broadband) but WW/Foodstuffs needs to be broken up into wholesale and retail divisions like telecom was
comment in response to post
Course not. The wholesale/retail chain in NZ needs to be separated. However, it won’t let third party competitors enter. The best thing to do is separate PnS/NW/WW /others as retailers and have FoodStuffs and Progressives as wholesalers

Here in Australia, every electorate is preferential voting. Peter Dutton lost his electorate (and the chance to be PM) because voters in his electorate hated what what he was selling; and didn’t want to be represented by such a divisive figure. PV would be better for NZs 70 electorates, not FPTP
comment in response to post
Full preferential voting forces the media to stop reporting on a “two horse race” as they currently do It means that for the 70 electorates, the person that actually gets over 50% overall actually wins instead of the 35% winner Taking it further, I think NZ needs 150 electorates, and no party vote

But if you’re not in nz, a nz leg of lamb is $22/nz in Australia. So there is something else going on Why am I paying $18/kg less in Australia? Neoliberalism. That’s why

#kikorangi The Regulatory Standards Bill makes it easier for a private company to override corporate social responsibility and if a future govt limits that, taxpayers have to reimburse the private entity for the entire loss of their future predicted earnings with no right of reply for the crown

In this instance, yes.

“Dudes” is gender specific As is “gals” “Guys” is widespread and gender neutral because everyone comes from a guy.

Willis’ budget is worse than Richardson’s 1991 budget. Good thing is it’ll be visible in 2027. Bad thing is, that’s after the 2026 election. Kiwis need to galvanise and vote those lying fuckers out even if Milquetoast isn’t much better.
comment in response to post
Absolutely it did. English gave up. But Farmers consistently shit on a Labour government even though Labour does more for famers every time it’s in government than it does for workers.

National are a crisis in themselves but a country of low information voters where electorates are FPTP instead of full preferential voting means NZ is worse off. 3 things I would change: 1: citizens only voting for central govt 2: full preferential voting for electorates 3: compulsory voting
comment in response to post
As tangata whenua, I have ALWAYS disagreed with 1 year residents being able to vote. Citizens only unless pre 1978 laws apply. I will die on that hill.
comment in response to post
New Zealand voters tend to be low information voters. While MMP is supposed to be more beneficial, the three changes I would make is compulsory voting; full preferential voting in electorates; and citizens only.

Employer contributions should be mandatory regardless if an employee is on a KiwiSaver holiday.
comment in response to post
Its worse than Richardon’s budget. The full impacts of Richardson’s budget weren’t known until 1998 - 7 years later. Willis’ budget will have its impacts known in 2027 - 2 years. Unfortunately, there’s an election in 2026 and the sheeple will eagerly vote for a few crumbs more from National.
comment in response to post
Good luck. Are you going to get an opportunity to reference how Australia’s Fair Work Commission has done exactly what National just legislated away, by comparing “womens work” to other comparable male dominated industries with ECEC and Aged Care workers getting up to 25% more over the next 3 years?

Technically, under the age of majority act 1970, you aren’t an adult until the age of 20.

And for good reason. He knows the media will be ferocious dogs coming after him for his earlier exploits as an archetypal single kiwi male exploring his options. The media will decide, in a country that is largely non-religious, to promote catholic sensibilities in such instance.

Calling seymour a cunt implies he has depth and warmth.
comment in response to post
Yeah, but nah. You took a reply into the extremes and veered way off course. So of course I’m going to respond in kind. As an adult, that largely WFH due to contraindications, I don’t need well meaning dogooders that don’t know two shits about the other, telling me what to do.
comment in response to post
Well yes, a cunt implies depth and warmth. A BvV has none of that.

Such a shame that the one year residents will vote for the government that let them live in NZ though? Utterly farcical NZ doesn’t restrict central govt voting rights to citizens only. Im fine with residents voting for local councils - at least they can’t fuck shit up for everyone.

Love this place. We were so lucky when we visited to have a grade 7 piano player in our tour group invited to play the grand. Chopin’s Mazurka never sounded so wonderful in such an intimate setting.

Hey Labour with its once in a lifetime MMP majority just wanted to ensure incremental change that stuck. Didn’t stick around for long though did it? Opportunity = wasted. Fuck Labour. Vote TMP to stick it to the man.

This means allowing private entity to dig up conservation land. The “predicted” earnings of mineral extraction will be paid for by taxpayers, even if there are no minerals. RSB is SO BAD for NZ, but National/ACT are distracting with pay parity laws which are easily repealed. The RSB isn’t.
