Typically in exchanges like this Trump goes full guns blazing, doubling down on everything. It's unlike him to show restraint like he is, today, suggesting he doesn't want to antagonize Musk, lending Musk's words credence. I could be wrong. But it's totally out of character.

The fact that Trump isn't doubling down today seems like tacit confirmation of everything that's been said.

Why is Trump's talk show still airing?

Even though I know it makes little difference, since the sheer depth of either would be so hard to believe, I can't resist getting trapped in this headspace where I'm trying to distinguish between breathtaking cynicism and breathtaking delusion when anybody in this gov't speaks.

The whole "it's not cutting medicaid if you decide the people who lose medicaid shouldn't have medicaid" is logic worthy of a Trump U grad.

Pretty obvious DJT's more interested in hosting a Jerry Springer / Maury Povich style leaders-of-the-world talk show from the oval office than actual diplomacy.

There's something really new happening here with the treatment of citizens as a product for export. Prisons for profit has gone global, making Todd Lyons' desire to model deportation on Amazon Prime entirely apt. He just said the quiet part out loud.

I've never been able to shake the feeling that his thinking is trapped in the late 1970s

I'm increasingly certain he's trapped in time somewhere around 1982. Or, maybe, 1882.

Thing is, I feel like I live in such a bizarro cartoon world now that I'm not surprised he thinks this could actually be an effective tactic in his art o' the deal.

At this point, it takes real cognitive dissonance to believe he's interested in anything other than market manipulation. The rest is noise and distraction, which just happen to come naturally to him.
