I missed this good news yesterday. Trump-Vance may have dragged us onto Russia’s side in their war against Ukraine, but hopefully we can stop their attempt to hand over Kseniia— who protested and called for Putin’s removal— to the hands of Trump’s idol in Moscow, and likely a dark fate.

We just released two new #FaithfulFight toolkits providing inspirational stories and concrete ways that faith communities can take action to counter authoritarianism. 1️⃣ Practicing noncooperation and civil disobedience - protdem.org/noncoop 2️⃣ Protecting government of the people - protdem.org/people

History has proven that, in a standoff with an autocrat and allies, strength (and perception of strength) matters. That’s why we’re uplifting stories of those standing up to autocratic abuse. #CollectiveCourage stories below ⬇️

NEW: Kennell Staten filed a complaint with HUD, saying he was denied an apartment for being gay — a complaint the agency had long taken seriously. Two days later, HUD informed him that it did not view allegations like his as subject to federal law. By @jessecoburn.bsky.social

In any other administration, this would be the biggest scandal of their presidency and would prompt immediate calls for a special prosecutor.

Corruption angle aside I would ask speaker Johnson to name any case where a non-ally foreign government has gifted the USAF or US Navy a plane or ship that we have put to use for our nuclear command and control

The same night as the awful anti trans news out of the State Department, it is good to see the “when in doubt or in trouble, make up a fake crisis about trans people and punch down at them ” political playbook fail in Omaha. See? It can be beaten.

The MAGA State Department is not just being gratuitously cruel to trans employees. Deliberately outing & misgendering them in communications will endanger civil servants & foreign service officers abroad. They want trans people to quit government, to disappear from public life, or to just die.

"No Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State" - U.S. constitution abcnews.go.com/Politics/tru...

It's 2015. President Barack Obama has accepted a "sky palace" jumbo jet from the Qatari government, which he'll own after he leaves office. "Everybody relax," he says in an interview with the New York Times. Everyone does. The networks then televise the military parade in his honor on his birthday.

I just really need everybody to understand that everything that’s happening in and to the global economy now (and all the businesses and people in it) is the entirely predictable result of the intentional decisions of one guy who doesn’t understand how the global economy works.

Every book published in the United States is sent to the Library of Congress. Also, if you are under 16 you cannot use the reading room or order books.

She's right. You're a lawyer for god's sake, it's your job to fight. The last three months have shown that some people in power are simply too soft for the moment. Toughen up or step aside and let someone with some backbone take over.

I’m still on a rollercoaster of feelings about Leo XIV. I thought I might never see an American Pope. Seeing him makes the loss of Francis more real- and shows how much the world has changed. I’m heartened by personal testimonies about him. And worry as an LGBTQ person about some of his words.(1/4)

A victory for democracy and free and fair elections. And victory for the principles that Trump-MAGA have tried to undermine again and again, including: You can’t change the rules after elections or take voters’ votes away because you lost. Those who lose elections should admit they’ve lost.

This is infuriating. Our draft dodging president can’t imagine the patriotism of trans service-members, or their sacrifices. And yet, SCOTUS defers to his “judgment” (hate as unlawful policy) and they are banned. I’m sorry for my friends in uniform, our national security, and this latest disgrace.

So proud of our team for the work on this case. You can’t change the rules for an election after the election, just because you are sad your side lost. And trying to do it by disenfranchising military and overseas voters was just despicable.

Senseless harm to our environment and our health.

I’m not going to link the animus-laden, anti-trans propaganda released by RFK’s HHS today. Just know that he and HHS are not just institutionally anti-vax and anti-evidence based public health more broadly, but anti-trans explicitly. Here is what real pediatric professionals have to say.

It doesn't matter what the rest of the sentence says, the opening 10 words in themselves are the scandal: "President Trump on Thursday directed the Justice Department to investigate ... "

Not even trying to conceal it: the U.S. Department of Justice is his instrument of personal vengeance, tasked with going after the political opposition.

Yes, I would like some good space news! And this is good space news. Closer to sending a rotorcraft to Saturn’s moon Titan, where it will hunt for signs of life and help us understand more about the origins of life on Earth. …if it can survive the devastating proposed Trump cuts to NASA science.

I am so sad for the passing of Pope Francis. His call to serve most of all the poor and the stranger was what the Church so desperately needed, and it did spiritual & tangible good for so many people. And while imperfect indeed, he welcomed me and my family as Catholics more than we had ever been.

It's never about the science. It's always about having a legal basis for your fear and hatred of other people.

1000x this

Feeling so much for my UK trans friends today. Both because of all that has happened in the US, as someone who lived in and loves the UK, and worked so much with the UK as an intel analyst. It’s cruel when our govts declare us less than others, and infuriating when they pretend it won’t hurt us.

Gallup [Apr 15] -- At the end of the first 100 days, more than 1-in-4 Americans -- a plurality of 27% -- believe the biggest problem facing US is now bad government compared to just 19% for economy, and 14% immigration (Note: trans issues didn't even make the list). @rikiwilchins.bsky.social

🚨🚨🚨 NEW: The White House is deliberately covering-up how they're spending *your* taxpayer money. What are they hiding? Cerin Lindgrensavage and William Ford in ifyoucankeepit.org @protectdemocracy.org www.ifyoucankeepit.org/p/the-white-...

It’s horrifying that Gov. Shapiro and his family had to go through this. I pray he and his family will be free fear and will find peace tonight. Every Gov. no matter their party should have issued a statement of support for Shapiro and a condemnation of antisemitic violence.

A win (for now, that hopefully sticks) for Maine, American kids everywhere, and the rule of law.

1. Major ruling: A federal court has ruled, for now, that Trump cannot take away school lunch money from hungry kids over trans students. This is Gov. Janet Mills first victory after telling Trump she would "see you in court." The latest from Mira Lazine. Subscribe to support our journalism.

If they can pry Andrew Tate out of Romanian custody, the Trump Administration can bring Garcia back from the El Salvadoran prison they sent him to. The president of El Salvador is coming to the WH on Monday…they’re obviously in touch with each other.

Excellent piece from @walterolson.bsky.social who notes this as a new level of revenge orders, and that the spirit is pure Beria: “show me the man, and I will show you the crime” More Russification* of American politics. Так стыдно. *Beria was Georgian, and it’s not exact translation but it holds

Federal spending is *up* under Trump according to the Wall Street Journal. Chaos is not actually the same as cost savings. Actual budgeting is a kind of actual policy-making and takes real work spread over real time. Running around breaking stuff isn't that. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

This is wonky but extremely worrying and predictable. As investors no longer see the US and our Treasuries as the safest place to park money and look to Germany and elsewhere— it will get more expensive for the US to borrow money. Higher deficits, higher taxes, less $ for services. Because MAGA.

Correct. But also the “Republican recession”— more and more every day that elected Congressional Republicans who have the constitutional power to vote to repeal these tariffs and override a Trump veto do nothing. They are not helpless, they are either for this or too afraid to do their duty.

Wow who could’ve guessed that this would happen It’s almost as if USAID was a pillar of American soft power and influence in the world It’s almost as if it was entirely predictable that America’s adversaries would work to fill the void left by USAID’s destruction

I hope my alma mater does the right thing and fights. This much is promising—after Columbia was targeted, President Paxson said if Brown’s academic freedoms were similarly challenged, “we would be compelled to vigorously exercise our legal rights to defend these freedoms.” Go Bears!

This didn’t make sense to me either. Then, I remembered the Administration has recently targeted the National Zoo by executive order for “improper ideology.” Therefore, without any actual possible economic motive, I think this might be to punish the gay penguins of the Heard and McDonald Islands?

Real question: Why are these ICE agents wearing masks? What is the purpose of this in this situation? (I was told masks are very bad! To wear post-COVID and for protests! So ICE must have a very good reason, right?)

🚨 BREAKING: I'm suing #RFKJr @ #HHS & #JayBhattacharya @ #NIH Canceling medical research grants threatens innovations benefiting ALL Americans, no matter your politics! 🇺🇸 Thanks to my lawyers @aclu.org @aclum.bsky.social @protectdemocracy.org & @cspi.bsky.social Long 🧵 on why I'm suing 👇 1/

Unbelievable looking at these tariffs. I think back to International Trade Law in law school, and how studying what remained of tariffs was like learning about remnants of an age-old pseudoscience only still used for narrow ends. And yet, here’s President Smoot-Hawley Trump, taking us back to 1930.
