Clarification: by conservative here I think Marco means behind, as it's using an altered version of the 2015 national code. All the other provinces are using more up to date versions, with BC leading the pack. A lot has changed in the last decade! Taller structures became accepted in later versions.

Police or park management may ask you to vacate.
comment in response to post
I’ve been asked to vacate parks after sunset in my teens a lot in Gatineau in a range of different contexts. It seems like it’s both vagrancy and vandalism management? Walkways through properties often get hit with the latter and are considered less desirable for that reason alone.

I don't think using the term privatization is inadequate, see BC Ferries, but it's definitely broadly misunderstood. The CDPQ could, at any point and for any reason, sell the REM to a private-for-profit or non-profit enterprise. ...But the government could do the same with almost any crown asset.

Sorry I don’t know if it wasn’t clear but I’m trying to say I’m not bothered by how different it is from the rest of Montreal/that it reminds me of Olympic village (YVR) from your footage.

It's giving Olympic Village and I don't really give a shit for its difference.

The way these programs are managed is so backwards, nvm the programs themselves.

Interesting angle! I vaguely remember that it used to be speculated that we needed face-signs because of our levels of illiteracy being higher than in the rest of Canada. The signs are also seen beyond pedestrian friendly areas, albeit in larger formats, sometimes wide for highways.

Everyone here: reply if you've watched the entire clip. The excerpt quote is acting like title bait so I'm just wondering who's assessing with full context.

It’s hard not to want those juicy dollars when you look at how much better muni infrastructure looks in a lot of those cities.

You're shifting between legal status and political capital expenses (like the closing of the Science Centre). He can absolutely, legally, reform the entire city if he so pleases. But to do so he has to "spend political capital", which yes, is another issue. Stop shifting the goalposts.
comment in response to post
The point is he can do whatever he wants legally. Denying that power illustrates ignorance of both our constitutional, historical and legal parameters. Political capital expenditures are a different matter altogether.

"Municipalities do not have the means of entrenching themselves" Do you understand what this means? ici.radio-canada.ca/tele/blogue/... Beyond other examples already provided to you nationwide, Quebec has a history of closing cities, notably all of these.

Consider this complementary rather than pedantic: some markets do have issues. For instance, excavation costs vary so much by region that it’s currently cheaper to have crews from Montreal travel to the Outaouais than it is to hire locally. That difference is 20-30% alone factoring for the travel.

Elevators: Marco is this hyperbolic again
comment in response to post
People blame “greedy landlords!” but they’re just responding to conditions that we create. Limiting housing below demand makes neighbourhoods/cities more exclusive, period. One project on its own doesn’t matter, but when it’s a pattern, yes.

(with the exception of safety where it's called upon to, but contract policing with cities could end and it was recommended it ends, actually)
comment in response to post
They could! An argument separatists actually make is that Ottawa overtaxes people and then uses that "surplus" from overtaxes to spend on provincial and municipal matters as it pleases. It's up for discussion whether or not that's the case.

Have any cities in Ontario deamalgamated?
comment in response to post
Through our modern history, there have been several rounds of forced amalgamations and forced town closures across the country. Those are done by order of the provincial government, please educate yourself.

You can say they're making the wrong compromises and choices, I think we're pretty much with you on that logic alone (see receding the canopies to save a buck in covered stations). However, the comment here was or read like you don't see it elsewhere (namely Europe). <3
