I don’t like seeing players fail. It’s the reality of professional sports but I take no pleasure in watching it. Seeing the Hurricanes pay for their petty revenge signing is hilarious, though.

I knew calling us "better fans" was going to come bite you back 😄

If I were a Conservative voter, I’d be pissed at Trump. He single-handedly changed the outcome of a foreign election because of his dumb ego. But then again, do Conservatives like Trump and forgive him everything like Republicans do?

The officiating was terrible. I also don’t think it’s the reason we lost; if anything, our PK was so good, it might have helped us gain momentum. Bad referees happen quite frequently in the NHL. Sadly. But it’s not the reason we lost.

A Demidov AND a Hutson! That was our future right there.
comment in response to post
I criticize Matheson a lot, but he played like a champ on that pk.

It could be the biggest play of the series. There’s a significant gap between Thompson and Lindgren

He's been great. Tonight is yet another reminder that we have a great first line; they've been dominant. And Slafkovsky hasn't even reached his full potential yet.
comment in response to post
Are they all expected to miss, or were they just given a day off?
comment in response to post
Man, I hope they make the playoffs. Not for us - I don't think they'll stay long - but for them. I'm afraid that if they don't make them, fans will only remember the bad bits at the end, and not how great this season actually was overall. They deserve nothing but praise, and I wish it for them.

I'm starting to worry. Carolina is not an easy team to beat, and Columbus is playing well enough to win those games.
comment in response to post
No pressure, Demidov, but we expect you to put us in the playoffs.
comment in response to post
There are so many people who had given up on Dobes already. He’s the only reason we still have a chance tonight.
comment in response to post
They don’t play the same type of role.
comment in response to post
Uh, we may come off a little strong, lol

These are really exciting times. I can’t believe we signed THE Tyler Thorpe!!!
comment in response to post
If Habs win tomorrow, they will be at 87 points, and the max Detroit would be able to get is 89. This could be over really quickly.
comment in response to post
I'm happy for Dobes. Some fans soured on him pretty fast, even though he's a rookie, and the job of a backup is thankless. He did exactly what he needed to do to help the team.
comment in response to post
That is still the aspect he can improve the most in his game. That being said, there's no doubt in my mind that he will. He's too smart and works too hard not to.
comment in response to post
That was a Laine/Caufield type of accuracy.
comment in response to post
We need another goal, though. They’re still very much in the game.
comment in response to post
Heineman will never be a star but I think he could turn into a good utility player that we can move around the different lines
comment in response to post
My guess is that playing on your off-side is difficult because a lot of the plays happens on your backhand side. It’s less an issue if you’re elite with your stick. Maybe someone who played hockey could confirm.
comment in response to post
Laine is not perfect, but the fact that he scored as many goals as he did, coming back from an injury, with no true playmaker on his even strength line, is really impressive. He will do wonders with Demidov next year.
comment in response to post
A NMC is a huge roadblock to Crosby being moved. In fact, it's arguably the biggest possible roadblock you can have. Unless something happens, something we have no control over, we have to assume Crosby stays in Pittsburgh.
comment in response to post
I am far less optimistic with this group than you are, I'm afraid. We'll have to agree to disagree.
comment in response to post
The "defensemen develop slowly" argument is what I'm saying. Our hole at D is about as big as our hole at 2C - we don't even have a proper first pair - and unless Reinbacher pulls a Hutson, he's years away from having an impact. We need a temporary fix until then.
comment in response to post
When you're fighting for playoff spot, it's because you have more than one hole. The last few games, only the Hutson-Struble pairing was in the positive; everyone else cratered. Struble could not find his way into the lineup only a few weeks ago. The pillars just aren't there/ready yet.
comment in response to post
All of these talks about a 2C overshadow the issue that our defense is kind of a mess, and will likely be next year as well. We put a lot of stock into Reinbacher being good right away, but I think we’ll need other help.
comment in response to post
I would sit Savard. He hasn't been good at all this year. Lots of character, but the body no longer follows.
comment in response to post
My problem is that they're not playing well. They've been playing playoff hockey for a while, and they look out of fuel. I thought the Flyers would be a good game to get going again.
comment in response to post
That’s the problem when you have to be in "playoff mode" too early: it’s unsustainable. They’re hitting another wall, and this could be it!
comment in response to post
I am starting to suspect that Curry has telekinetic powers.
comment in response to post
You didn't say who would be with Demidov and the new 2C. That would be one more spot available.
comment in response to post
Pre-injury Dach, then Newhook now.
comment in response to post
Fun fact: we played the Panthers twice this year and the only time they scored, they needed a pick to do it.
comment in response to post
It’s the worst case scenario: it was the right call to make, but it’s unlikely Bobrovsky would have made that save.
comment in response to post
He’s not perfect, but we wouldn’t be in the mix without him.
comment in response to post
Also worth pointing out that Laine's PP production is in large part due to Suzuki and Hutson, the team's 2 elite playmakers, and that all signs point to Demidov being in the same class, if not better. If they click, the offense they will create will reduce the amount of time they need to defend.
comment in response to post
Suzuki, Caufield & Slafkovsky play together because they fit well together. Laine, Newhook & Dach play together because they're the only offensive talents we have left. Next year, Hughes & MSL need to properly build a 2nd line. One that looks less like a prayer and more like a plan.
comment in response to post
I don't think the "Dach at C experiment", as you put it, is entirely over. Last year's injury was so serious that the team won't put too much stock in his struggle this year. My guess is, unless a better option presents itself, they will wait to see if he clicks with Demidov before making any move.
comment in response to post
The goal for this year was to be "in the mix". We are. Next year, the team will probably have more ambitious objectives but there was no need to make a big push this year. Besides, we didn't have much to give to get that 2C.
comment in response to post
I haven’t given up on Dach being that guy eventually. Sure, he’s had a bad season, but he was coming back from a serious injury. For example, Caufield is much better than he was at any point last year. That being said, I’m not against the idea of an upgrade if it becomes available.
comment in response to post
Hutson never really had a "real" partner. He was playing with Matheson, not because they fitted together, but because the other pairs were good. It’s nice that we found a role for Struble.
comment in response to post
He has missed a lot of time already for such a young player. This can’t have helped his development.
comment in response to post
I wish @marcdumont.bsky.social would post here. He's almost the last person I follow that posts that is still mainly over there.
comment in response to post
If he can be the player he was during his run at the end of last season, a player that is never dirty but who almost always win his puck battles, I won't complain.
comment in response to post
I think that with the way they will likely be used, the top-2 or top-4 distinction won't matter much. Guhle is clearly the best shutdown D on the team but Hutson is very often the most used D. Whoever he plays with, Reinbacher will play big minutes.
comment in response to post
Agreed. The game doesn't really have any true competition at this point. Everyone else is fighting for second place.
