I’m wary of getting my hopes up that the propaganda can be broken, but there have been positive signs.

These “try to phonetically write in Elon Musk’s accent” posts aren’t landing because my brain won’t stop reverting to @iwriteok.bsky.social’s Boston accent.

To be fair it's easy to be vindicated when your commitment is "the border Gestapo are evil and should not exist" Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

LAPD has done more to aid and abet ICE than most red state law enforcement.

If someone robs you and you try to chase them but I attack you to let them get away, I’m obviously aiding the robber. This is a direct violation of California law, despite whatever word games Bass and Newsom will play. ICE can deal with the consequences of their own actions.

AP has sent me 9 notifications today, including stories about Tom Felton and how much people apparently like working at Walmart bakeries. Nothing about this though.

The two reasons I haven't favored secession are that 1) the sheer complexity of doing so could cause unrecoverable economic damage, and 2) large-scale violent confrontations with federal entities would be inevitable. I'm starting to think both of those things are going to happen whatever we choose.

Something I've been thinking about lately. Transit vehicles are themselves third places. I have memories on specific vehicles, or sometimes general periods of time associated with specific series.

Because effectively 100% of people sick enough to need CPR will die without it. It’s time to require stats in high school, Bayes’ Theorem at minimum.

If California gets funding pulled, the line we absolutely must maintain is that it’s not about trans kids. The far right has been talking about destroying academia for decades. We must refuse to accept “Trump ends all medical research because a trans girl ran a track meet” as reality.

Los Angeles EMERGENCY ICE protest TODAY at 4:30pm. Please show up, share with your friends/groups

This deficit alone would fund NIH for two years.

There already have been cases of suicide where the individual perceived that a chatbot was instructing/encouraging them to do it. Homicide would not be a stretch.

This is appalling. These are also conditions they tested in the Biden admin by keeping people outdoors and providing no food, water, and shelter. Congress didn’t say a word, and now here we are

UC postdocs: Your right to 30 day notice of termination for lack of funds is absolute. DO NOT RESIGN. You will be terminating your benefits early, forfeiting unemployment rights, and possibly irreversibly ending visa work eligibility. If pressured to do so, contact our union on your campus ASAP.

This would be one of the most economically damaging single actions in history. In San Diego alone, a permanent loss of research funding would probably create 15-20% unemployment. The City has just about finalized its quite painful budget cuts. It'd probably have to double them.

Issa comes out in favor of ending cancer research conducted in California. Americans have spent between $500,000 and $1,000,000 making me a scientist over the last 8-10 years. The alleged cancellations would waste all of that time and money. And that's just me, multiply it by about 10k or 100k.

There are two things that have recently made me want to move back home: @katmabu.bsky.social’s campaign, and the CTA YouTube channel’s Purple line train-cab-view video because you can hear cicadas in it.

Social scientists have called this out for a while. From my own work to Latrica Best, Aaron Panofsky, Evelyn Hammonds, Reanne Frank, Alondra Nelson, Jonathan Kahn, Oliver Rollins, Rina Bliss, Ruha Benjamin, Troy Duster, & many more. Race as proxy fails because racial groups are not a genetic reality

Apparently our universities are so virulently antisemitic that the only way to fix them is to destroy health research for generations and cause millions of preventable deaths. This person, apparently, is not antisemitic and therefore has a major role in shaping national health policy going forward.

I didn’t actually realize LA was also a city that realized “we’ve made a terrible mistake” sometime around 1980.

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away
