If someone robs you and you try to chase them but I attack you to let them get away, I’m obviously aiding the robber. This is a direct violation of California law, despite whatever word games Bass and Newsom will play. ICE can deal with the consequences of their own actions.

The two reasons I haven't favored secession are that 1) the sheer complexity of doing so could cause unrecoverable economic damage, and 2) large-scale violent confrontations with federal entities would be inevitable. I'm starting to think both of those things are going to happen whatever we choose.

If California gets funding pulled, the line we absolutely must maintain is that it’s not about trans kids. The far right has been talking about destroying academia for decades. We must refuse to accept “Trump ends all medical research because a trans girl ran a track meet” as reality.

This would be one of the most economically damaging single actions in history. In San Diego alone, a permanent loss of research funding would probably create 15-20% unemployment. The City has just about finalized its quite painful budget cuts. It'd probably have to double them.

Issa comes out in favor of ending cancer research conducted in California. Americans have spent between $500,000 and $1,000,000 making me a scientist over the last 8-10 years. The alleged cancellations would waste all of that time and money. And that's just me, multiply it by about 10k or 100k.

Apparently our universities are so virulently antisemitic that the only way to fix them is to destroy health research for generations and cause millions of preventable deaths.
