I run a BA in Comedy Writing and Performance. I have worked at The Second City for longer than I am comfortable admitting to. I read a lot of books.

We think it's important to gather peacefully. In the face of this horror, we will mourn and mark our determination for a peaceful, just, democratic future. Our leadership team is in touch with authorities at the Capitol and will share any updates. 2/3

Just spent a highly enjoyable time searching for a half remembered film that I couldn’t find but did come across Tulip Fever
this. It’s not goth per se but the trailer is bonkers

At the time it seemed like the next obvious way to go- you’d download it somewhere and you assumed it would stay there. It never occurred (to me anyway) that they would change the technology and just take it away.

As a professor of (um) comedy, I’ve had to do this. The clips and films I need to show to my students kept disappearing. In particular I am pissed at ITunes- I bought a set of specific standup routines from that ALL just disappeared.

Thank you for reminding me during this time of my debilitating head cold that I have only watched a portion of season 1

For what it’s worth Adam McKay (he was in the SC tourco at the time) saw the whole thing and loved it as well.

The worst bit was that the proscenium was surrounded by television sets, some of which were showing a variety of Japanese cartoons, others were showing video of the actors who were at the back of the stage facing upstage being filmed by other actors.

As a Chicagoan who grew up in Minnesota, I can say that I have never felt colder than I have on certain days in LA.

I forget what movie I first saw him in but I felt something modern about his presence on film - as if he were a time traveler who went back to the 30s and became an actor

There was a stunningly uncomfortable production of The Merchant of Venice at The Goodman Theatre that was five hours long. When I saw it, easily half the audience left before intermission, us included and we knew actors in the show

So Trump is the poor man's idea of a rich man and Vance is a rich man's idea of a poor man?

I love Discworld for this age. Funny and smart and dealing with real issues in a thoughtful way. Tiffany Aching is my personal hero but the more “adult” books are still great for smart preteens. Just start after the Rincewind ones.
