Sometimes, but I’m far more baffled by the extremely earnest and not not all predatory midwestern agricultural machinery dealer who is convinced I must periodically have “plant and machinery” that I am interested in selling to verified clients for industry standard prices

Ie it’s a story about a new art form arriving in the Discworld, and in this case it’s the musical. This was a v early 90s mood, Phantom was everywhere, “is opera dead?” commentary. ISTR book basically ends with them agreeing that from now on they’ll put on musicals, because that’s what people want?

I enjoyed this! But couldn’t work out if you don’t know the plot of Phantom of the Opera or was it just too obvious to mention more than once in passing? Because I think that’s the key to how it fits in with Moving Pictures, Soul Music etc

It still feels as if huge chunks of the world’s media feel like if they just cover Trump like a normal president he’ll somehow *become* a normal president. How’s that going?

I see, thanks. The latter case amusingly suggesting that societal norms are in fact holding up well here.

Very interesting, I only use the Victoria, Jubilee, Circle and District and can’t remember the last time I saw any graffiti. So it depends whether they are sitting accessibly overnight somewhere?

Very interesting, and presumably media style guides especially at the BBC would have followed, hence preponderance in search results.

Genuinely baffled, surely there isn’t another way of pronouncing UK? Or is this going to be like the time I didn’t believe barm was a real word

People sometimes say “I’m glad they’re just going full mask off and showing us who they really are.”
I am personally really not. I think having strongly enforced norms *against* engaging in essentially open racism was an excellent thing, and we are going to miss it now that it seems to be going

This is the commitment required 🙌 I may get out my special blackout material for the side windows today. Ideally one would feel as cool and restful as in a shady 18C stone farmhouse in a sun-baked valley in the Languedoc except it is a flat in Penge.

Mostly this is subtweeting the rest of my block of flats who have all their windows open when it’s hot (except the Poles, who know what they are about) filling the building with heat every day as fast as I can leach it out in the evening and morning
