Retired from the College of Engineering at a Midwest research university. More time for art and music, and riding my bike. Interested in languages and how people learn them at various ages. Having a second career of sorts as a lab rat at the U.

I'm reserving judgment. The volunteer fired at a liikely perp rushing at the demonstators with a rifle in firing position. Too late for de-escalation at that point. A demonstrator was fatally wounded, but it is quite likely that a mass shooting was averted. Reporting has been confusing.

WTF is "E.d.D." ? If he has a doctorate in education, It would be abbreviated to "Ed.D". But hey, that qualfies you to run a private security firm.
When news first started breaking, I was skeptical that he was "impersonating" a police officer. Turns out I was not far off: deep police ties.

If you normalize faceless thugs with military weapons terrorizing people on the streets or in their homes, this was inevitable. That they were elected officials and apparently targeted adds to the shock. Still marchin later for NO KINGS

The ones assisting ICE need to be reminded of the line from the Marine hymn: "...to keep our honor clean."

Hey, I have a degree in Operations Research (yes, really, Standord, last millennium)!
But I was not asked to be on ACIP.
Getting my next COVID shot on Friday. Is it too late in life to develop autism? In my case, maybe you would not be able to tell.

As a fan or even a player, I would boycott. But then FIFA is as corrupt as MAGA. I predict a whitewashed show for the VIPs but a signifcant number of fans will have an unpleasant time with ICE. We are not a welcoming country.

Before retirement my funding was primarily DOE and DHS (no ICE). Can I still sign?

This is my embarrassment of an excuse for a "Representative". We picketed her field office a few weeks back.

In true Orwellian doublespeak, DHS said they forced their way into the Congressional staffers’ office and zip tied an aide in order to “protect” them.

I understand my Congressperson, Mary Miller (ugh, Repugnican-IL) owns a family farm in IL but incorporated in Delaware and gets farm subsidies. Probably qualifies as Johnson's "small business." BTW she has never held a town hall.

Art was important to Hitler, himself a frustrated artist. It became a means to celebrate the heroic Reich. Stalin similarly harnessed art for propaganda purposes. He does not care about impact of tariffs and healrh care. Look for National Galleries to placate dear leader.

I realize family size is an intensely personal choice, but why the pro-birth push from the left and the right for more babies? Beyond resource exhaustion, in countries with highest birth rates women have lower status, more patriarchy, and intrusive religion. Big broods, bros, and priests=bad

My Berlinerin daughter's offer to be our anchor baby is looking more attractive. I sent my CV to that French portal inviting US scientists, even tho I'm retired.

This is great, even if it slips the relevance of US medical research down a peg. I am not a medical professional, but I did extensively check PubMed and NIH and JAMA and other sources when I had a suspeted arrythmia. Will they accept papers from all over the world, including USA?

I think a lot of "End Times" beliefs come into it. The Christian Nationalists beleive we are in the apocalyptic war, and nuclar annihilation and killer weather are just part of "The Plan." They are of course certain they will be saved when everything literally goes to hell in their view.

Similar sentiment. I've had both shingles and I think that's good for life. But your concern about options taken away is unfortunately justified
