More than that. It may not meet the legal definition, but they are traitors, full stop. They deserve scorn and ruination.

How on Earth do you equivocate between clearly illegal acts and legal exercise of rights?
How do you gloss over an administration official proclaiming they intend to engage in a coup of local government through illegal use of force?
How does someone care so little about truth and our future?

And justice on a massive scale will need to be pursued. There are a lot of bad actors who have been acting as though the "rules don't apply anymore", and have been engaging in base unethical and immoral actions.
They need to learn the hard way that they're wrong.

The loopholes will need to be closed; statutes written so even those with an IQ of 5 get them. Some statutes removed entirely. Constitutional amendments pursued where necessary, particularly to nuke the "unitary executive" nonsense.

Quite frankly, it should include establishing a prosecutorial team to go after every single DHS/ICE/law enforcement member who took advantage of this time period to abuse their power or otherwise break the law.
Accountability and justice are key.

Their faces are on camera, and they should be prosecuted. There were no legal grounds for their actions, which makes it assault and a civil rights violation.

I suspect: not so well. She likes to pretend that she's tough. I'm betting a lot of inmates can see through that, and to them it's like catnip.

To be clear, I -- and I suspect this is true for most feds -- have my red lines.

Very true - and for some (perhaps most?) of us, we also feel we can still do more good where we are, and hope there will come a time to rebuild. If/when that happens, expertise that respects the oath of office will be needed.

Has the administration actually made a decent case why *any* of them are real emergencies?

The amazing thing is, at this point thanks to DOGE's wilding spree, we can legitimately ask whose government it is - President Trump's or Elon Musk's.
Who has the power here?
comment in response to
post
Someone may - unless Trump uproots DOGE completely. Keeping Musk's handpicked loyalists and their computer access around is a huge risk from just about any perspective.
And anyone (*ahem* Russ Vought) who wants to keep them around should raise alarm bells.

As a federal employee, a lot of info about me is out there, including my salary history. And I'm not someone with a law enforcement warrant.
Law enforcement needs oversight. Avoiding identification prevents that. We're not talking about mafia retaliation, here.

In terms of MAGA support, I agree.
In terms of actual power -- people across the political spectrum have been warning for months about how much real power Musk has amassed from his and his loyalists' DOGE wilding spree.

Frankly, if I were Trump, I would also be really concerned about any of his people who want to keep some of Musk's influence and power around intact, including Vought.

I think Trump's advisors realize this. Trump doesn't seem to - unless he's doing something behind the scenes.
As long as DOGE or anything related to it is around, Trump is in trouble.
comment in response to

The amazing thing is that Trump doesn't seem to realize Musk has his boot on Trump's throat. As long as Musk's handpicked DOGE loyalists and their access are throughout the government, Trump is in trouble. It's also a huge security risk for the country.

I mean, Musk's handpicked DOGE kids are still throughout government. Wonder if Trump really realizes how much trouble Musk can make for him while they're still around?

So, a question: doesn't an emergency appeal have to be based, at some level, on there actually being grounds to say there's an emergency?
comment in response to

I'd normally chalk this up to not knowing with whom you're speaking. As it is, I think you're just chasing engagement.

As someone who would like to see the elder cohort in government move on, this is pure ageist nonsense. The problem isn't what you're saying about government. It's that you're picking a fight with one of the brightest lights for no good reason at all.

Of course, Trump's stance isn't really practical.

I hear they're paying the customers these days. "Buying" not necessary.

To me, there's a further question: am I doing any good by staying?

@joshtpm.bsky.social also raised this possibility, due to the potential for damage to each.

And some of Elon's fanboys are jumping to his defense. Quite the explosion.

True - but MAGA world refused to believe it.

If Musk and his crew really have accessed as much government data as we think, I'm guessing there's more out there.
