To test this, Prof. Don Powers @lampornis.bsky.social showed hummingbirds actively heat their beaks after flight. Turns out, the bill helps dissipate heat during perching! 🔥➡️💨

Agreed. Terrestrial implies birds are hanging out on the ground. Landbird is a common way to refer to all the birds that hang out in terrestrial ecosystems - including those that rarely come to the ground.

It's certainly possible and we're after that; however, it's a bit more complex because there are some pale plumaged, yellow-dotted populations of P. olivaceus. Songs are undistinguishable and there's no song discrimination between the two species, and both meet at the Cauca slopes in Antioquia.
