fuck yes hi that's me

i keep seeing people say that LLMs are good at search. NO. WRONG. You have just forgotten how good search used to be. Google broke it's own flagship product, and so you are accepting a demented chatbot's half baked gishgallop because we no longer have functional web search.

desperately trying to explain "if you can't build it by copy-pasting stack overflow posts together, then it's not the sort of code the computer can generate for you" along with "the hard part of the 3,000 line changes isn't writing them, it's verifying they're correct"

I keep having to restate to comrades that Tru*p is broadly unpopular and that this is an ACTUAL opportunity. Even some organizers seem to be convinced that this guy is more popular than he is. His fans are not THE COUNTRY. Stop being propagandized by the terrible US mainstream media.

You know you’re winning when you post “We are NOT the Gestapo!”

😳

Good morning 🌞 – some inspo to start your day: It’s people like Dr. Brittany Charlton, a Harvard professor and public health researcher, who remind us that science, equity, and truth are worth fighting for. 💪🏽🌍 Her lawsuit is protecting LGBTQ+ health, science, and democracy. 🏳️‍🌈⚖️

The men appeared at the US Copyright Office days after after the Trump administration fired its leader, who had just published a report about the use of copyrighted materials for AI training. www.wired.com/story/us-cop...

This is driving me nuts on a day to day basis.

Good Morning! ☀️ Need a boost? Hear the powerful voices of NIH staff and @alsobrooks.senate.gov calling on RFK Jr. to resign — from this weekend’s rally outside NIH. @alt-nihscience4all.altgov.info As one NIH scientist said: "The cost of this is human lives." That’s why we keep fighting. 🧬✊

Rep Menendez just said that Mayor Baraka was on the public side of the fence when 20 armed, many masked, ICE agents opened the gate and went to arrest him. #DEFUNDICE

Please spread the correct information about Mayor Baraka's arrest. He had apparently been trying for a few days to visit the ICE prison and was rebuffed. Then the members of Congress tried to visit today and were made to wait in the waiting area for 90 minutes. Then 20 ICE Gestapo showed up...

In college, I assumed I’d never get lab experience b/c I couldn’t afford not working ($) for a summer. Then, a classmate explained that NSF REUs paid a stipend & covered housing/travel costs. My REU experience was literally life-changing. #WithoutNSF a career in science would’ve been out of reach

As we’ve said before now confirmed. FOIA requests reveal that DOGE employees are pulling in six-figure salaries, with many holding the title of “Expert,” a specific Office of Personnel Management (OPM) designation that pays around $190,000 a year.

Starting a thread of metaphors to describe the vibes of generative AI. Let’s kick off with: Generative AI is the screw that’s five turns from being flush on a water slide.

Sounds like an A+ alternative (to chatGPT)

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching. Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

Quick reminder to the small number of people who are like “but is it real bread if it contains Chemicals?” We add preservatives to bread because before we did that, poor people (and sometimes rich ones) died of starvation or food poisoning.

Republicans just voted down my amendment on the Oversight committee that would nullify their budget cuts if the President defies a Supreme Court ruling. Why? Chair Comer said that the budget could actually be nullified. He conceded that Trump is and can defy a ruling.

This x 1000

“If left unchallenged, a rising wave of white nationalism in many parts of the globe could threaten the progress that has been made in science — and broader society — towards a more equitable world,” writes Genevieve Wojcik in a Comment article for Nature. 🧬 🧪

THIS HAPPENS SO OFTEN! CITATIONS, Q’s ABOUT HISTORY. IF YOU ASK ABOUT THE FABRICATION, IT WILL SAY IT PROVIDED AN ANSWER ~”IN THE STYLE OF YOUR REQUEST.” DONT USE IT. THIS IS IN CAPS BECAUSE IM SHOUTING. -A SCIENTIST WHO IS TIRED OF AI GARBAGE INFILTRATING REAL LIFE.

They arrested a sitting Judge. This is insane. Every day, the Trump admin commits another blatant act of lawlessness — not just to test our systems, but to test us. I will not grow weary of saying it plainly: We have no kings in America. We must not be silent or look away.

We’re currently sending people to a lifetime of unpaid labor for being born over an imaginary line and having tattoos.

One of my current projects is going through all of the retained USAID grants looking for anything fishy and whew boy there is a wild amount of likely corruption. Tell me why this random Evangelical org in Arkansas had five of five of its awards preserved, but we won't fund the World Food Programme

Reminder: illiteracy reflects shortcomings of a society. It is NOT a reflection of a person’s value or moral compass.

A US citizen with a learning disability who has just suffered a medical emergency asks a CBP officer for directions outside the emergency room. He ends up detained in an icebox for ten days and has the assistant secretary of DHS lying about him to the public at large. popular.info/p/us-citizen...

The research carried out by the National Institutes of Health continues to revolutionize treatment of diseases from cancer to heart disease to diabetes to rare disorders. This cool online tool allows you to see how your tax dollars transformed science into survival. www.ourhealthroi.com

As a person who has studied history, an autism registry is a five alarm fire.

If any journalists are writing about the recent NSF cancellations, I can give you a good example of a grant that was framed as AI workforce development (and is not about misinformation) that seems as if it was cancelled due to a control-F for the word misinformation.

crap can i still use this battery if i cant taunt a small child with it

A lot of people seem to think following the U.S. Constitution is optional—like picking which shoes to wear in the morning. It’s not. If you’re within the boundaries of the United States, the Constitution applies to you.

I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.

Rep. Chris Smith (R) - A Tax Day reminder from one of our NJ Indivisibles! #NJ4

We called out Harvard in the past for inaction. So now we are happy to speak out with praise. This is a major step forward. It’s not just a lack of capitulation. It’s an aggressive effort leaning into public comms — exactly what is needed. Bravo to Harvard 👏
