My work week, in a nutshell: www.wral.com/story/nc-law...

I'm honestly not sure if @croolby.bsky.social had met a Jewish person before attending Harvard. He also hadn't yet met Steven Pinker, so take of that what you will 🤷

This was a fantastic conversation about the realities facing the Triangle's Hispanic communities right now. Please support El Centro Hispano if you are able--they're facing a 20% reduction in their budget due to govt cuts while demand for their services skyrockets. #bullcity #ncpol #nctriangle

While the Riggs/Griffin showdown may be over, that doesn't mean we can stop watching this space. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/with...

The #ncga House put its proposed list of state symbols into the budget bill #ncpol

Who on earth snuck this in there? Something that is actually good for childhood development?! Shocking!

Looking at you, HB 781. #ncga ncnewsline.com/2025/05/09/n...

My partner thinks this is "something out of my (type A) fever dreams:" www.nytimes.com/2025/05/12/s.... I'm less convinced. Thoughts to follow (thread)

Allison Riggs being sworn in by Associate Justice Anita Earls

This was so hard to watch yesterday. Hate seeing competent women treated like crap by (older, white) men.

Dear Spotify: Really don't appreciate the ads from Kristi Noem promoting self-deportation while I'm trying to listen to stupid pop culture podcasts to get a break from my political day job. Can you not? Thx.

Per NCSBE counsel and Chairman Francis De Luca, certificate of election for Riggs will be issued immediately after the federal court's seven-day stay ends on May 12th. This will happen administratively, so no new meeting needed from NCSBE. This puts Riggs' swearing in on or around May 13th. #ncpol

Jefferson Griffin concedes NC Supreme Court race, ending unprecedented effort to overturn election. Griffin says he will not appeal a federal judge's ruling against him. Board of Elections will certify Allison Riggs as winner. (Via @kyleingram.bsky.social) www.newsobserver.com/news/politic... #ncpol

NCBSE statement on yesterday’s ruling: “Absent a successful appeal, all voters whose ballots were challenged by Mr. Griffin will remain in the count, without any requirement for further action by those voters.” #ncpol

Not a great way to start the week....

Crossing my fingers that the NC Supreme Court will do the right thing here and halt implementation of this law until all legal appeals have been decided, but honestly not optimistic.

NC falls in national ranking on average teacher pay. Here’s where state ranks. New NEA report ranks North Carolina 43rd in average teacher pay & projected at 44th this school year. NC ranks 39th in beginning teacher pay, up 3 slots. www.newsobserver.com/news/local/e... #nced #ncpol

Love it when they specifically target Durham. In case anyone was wondering, the NCGA is (frequently) why we can't have nice things. ncnewsline.com/briefs/bill-... #bullcity #ncpol

This is wild. Hopefully they can pinpoint what's triggering it. We definitely need to learn more about early onset colon cancers!

Had an alarming number of meetings/conversations lately about what to do if (insert any number of insane/rumored executive actions) actually happens and how to protect yourself/your org. The mental load is taking its toll, which was probably the point all along.

Federal judges block NC Supreme Court election ‘cure’ process — for now. The ruling puts on hold a process that would have required thousands of military & overseas voters to prove their eligibility or have their votes tossed. Is it just me, or does this article really make it sound like our Sheriff is having a temper tantrum? #bullcity www.newsobserver.com/news/politic...

ICYMI All NC taxpayers get an extended deadline to file & pay taxes this year, IRS says. Due to Hurricane Helene and Tropical Storm Debby, taxpayers in all 100 NC counties have until May 1 to file federal & state taxes. (Via Kimberly Cataudella Tutuska) www.newsobserver.com/news/state/n... #ncpol

Interesting turn of events. Always nice when they drop things like this after 5pm on a Friday, so we have to wait days to resolve any outstanding questions 🙃

Forcing people to pay $130 for a passport in order to vote is just a Jim Crow poll tax by another name. It is blatantly unconstitutional.

BREAKING: NC Supreme Court has temporarily blocked appeals court decision that would've disqualified roughly 267 ballots and required more than 61,000 voters to cure registration/ballot deficiencies within 15 business days in order for their votes to count. Story to come. #ncpol

Resharing this excellent overview that @dukechronicle.bsky.social published last month for those who want more background info on the Riggs/Griffin election protest: www.dukechronicle.com/article/2025... #ncpol

The ruling issued yesterday by the NC Court of Appeals in the election protest brought by state supreme court candidate Jefferson Griffin will likely be appealed, which means that the directives in the ruling may not go into effect. Stay tuned! #ncpol #votenc #votingrights #ncvoting

Guidance from #NCSBE #ncpol

This would be a good time for national news sites to promote the folks on the ground in NC, doing the work: @ncnewsline.com @downhomenc.bsky.social @beaconmedia.bsky.social @theassemblync.bsky.social

Statement from the NCSBE on today's court of appeals decision: www.ncsbe.gov/information-.... Directs anyone who is worried to reregister with all required info (last 4 digits of SSN or NCDL # are now required). Curing process may or may not happen, depending on appeals. #ncpol

Quote posting myself because I forgot to tag #ncpol

A few notes to everyone freaking out about this verdict: 1. It will be appealed, so it's unclear if/when the directives in this decision would take place. 2. The 15 day period for voters to cure their registration would only start AFTER A LETTER IS MAILED to voters from their CBOE, not today.

This should be an interesting race to watch. NC's 18th Senate District encompasses Granville County and the northern portion of Wake County.

As things stand, approx 267 NC voters stand will have ballots tossed, another approx 65,782 will be given 15 business days to correct deficiencies in their registration and/or provide photo ID. Wondering if your vote at risk? Spreadsheet here--> #ncpol docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

This will be appealed, but it looks like we're headed towards a massive ballot curing process here in NC. I'd be curious to see stats on how reliably the USPS even delivers mail within 15 business days, much less the time to receive a response.
