It can be hard. My parents took it personally when I didn't want something they felt I should want. After a while, I just pretended I wanted it until the time came when I could get rid of it without them knowing. I will NOT do that to my kids.

Yup. My parents were Depression kids too.

Aw, thanks! I so enjoyed talking with her! She was interesting and fun. And the food was fantastic.

I'm pretty sure my parents were functional hoarders. You could walk through the house, get in and out safely, but every cupboard/drawer/closet was jam-packed. My mother had 27 winter coats. There were more than 75 empty Folgers cans in the basement, "just in case."

And get rid of all your crap. Don't assume your kids will want it. In fact, ask them what they want, then get rid of everything else. We downsized to an apartment a few years ago and got rid of tons of stuff. Why yes, I did have to clean out my parents' home of 50+ years under duress.

Jaws is on Peacock right now. I love that movie. And Robert Shaw as Quint.

I tried them once. The first taste was dill, which I liked, but then there was a weird, chemical aftertaste. It happened with every bite. I didn't finish them.

Amy is so out of step with the world as it is right now, and she's far too arrogant to admit it, even to herself. I so so so so hope someone good primaries her next time she's up.

In NE Mpls, it looked like we had about 200 people.

Once again, the NYT is too lazy to get the truth. Protests happened with large numbers of attendees.

Agreed. We've started routinely watching his monologues because of it. And I also feel like he often has a different take on the same news stories that Colbert, Meyers, etc. are covering.

I know. It's hard. I've gotten caught a couple of times sharing things that seemed utterly legit. I'm trying to be more careful. It's dismaying, how much dis/misinformation is being shared on the left.

I do not want that in a refrigerator. A reliable icemaker, however......

Living north of Bemidji when I grew up, and when the weather conditions were right, I could get Chicago's WLS and hear the REALLY cool music.
comment in response to post
Great to know, thanks! We're not doing the ring road, just exploring central and west North, but spending a couple of days in Akureyri.
comment in response to post
Oh, where in Akureyri? I'll be there in a few weeks.

Maybe this will finally be Frey's downfall? Wish I lived in Mpls so I could vote against him.

I've always meant to read the Proust. I mean, you could lead a Bluesky read-along and discussion.....
