cuomo as a candidate is like the guy who thinks good sex is pumping away while you're making a grocery list in your head wondering when he'll be done. mamdani is like the guy who is all sweet and nerdy but holds you down and makes you cum until your calves cramp

bring earplugs. as a fellow crowd-hater, i'm here to tell you that the noise is horrendous. a million other people will have told you to bring water, but: bring water

that is a reason to live in a city with mass transit, not a reason to live in the suburbs

to be fair, times square *is* a hellscape. disney store, bubba gump shrimp company, and so. many. tourists. just standing in the middle of the sidewalk looking up

it's not too clear to me why you imagine that this chart would convince any decent human being to visit xitter ever

Also, do you know Merlin Sheldrake's book Entangled Life? (In my opinion, everyone should. Especially the audiobook, read by the endearingly enthusiastic author.)

I bark-laughed at that last line too, so I hope you feel vindicated now

Speaking as a longtime copyeditor who, yk, also reads: Damn but there is a lot of bad copyediting out there. Congrats on landing whoever came up with the Carolina parakeet catch!

I always love to look at the spices, ready in their glass bowls. The colors and textures are so beautiful.

No way did he write that post. Not enough capital letters, not enough exclamation points, too coherent.
comment in response to post
anyway, i'm muting you. i don't have time for people who defend classism as if it's somehow more okay than racism or misogyny

please explain to me why i, a politically progressive person from a working-class immigrant family, should "get over it." you're from a people historically insulted in large part on the basis of class: is it really truly okay with you if brits call you "paddy"?
comment in response to post
uh, no? i'm a progressive person from a working-class immigrant family, and i get tired of bien-pensant liberals throwing around classist insults. why is this hard to understand?
comment in response to post
wait, you're saying it's okay to use "redneck" if people have their own associations with it and never mind the historical context of the word? sorry, not buying.

you seem nice. blocked.

considering that the r's are cutting support for maternal health i'd say they don't care about fetuses either, not really: what they care about is controlling women & women's sexuality

i long for someone with expertise to explore connections between contempt of poor white people and racism toward black people. i strongly suspect it's something about poor white people doing the same kind of work as enslaved/indentured black people & thus being "like them" & to be despised
comment in response to post
"redneck" is one of those insults (like "toothless") beloved by liberals who don't know how classist they're being. "rednecks" are white people who do manual labor outdoors & get sunburned; the term is an expression of contempt for working-class people. so please don't.

ok but were these fears backed up by statistics? at least in nyc, we're flooded with copaganda about how wE mUSt HavE MORe pOLiCe because there's "so much crime," when actually there isn't much crime (unless you count sleeping bc homeless)
comment in response to post
and that's a block for you

oh ffs get off my side, you misogynist ass /signed/ old lady who takes the subway multiple x/week
comment in response to post
"known" to whom? which metro area is this? bc i live in nyc & the lies spewed about our subway system would be hilarious if they weren't so dangerous
comment in response to post
i mean, yeah, there are a lot of homeless & mentally ill people on the nyc subway, but (a) i've almost never felt even remotely threatened by any of them (b) if we don't want them on the trains then maaaaaaaaaaaaybe we should be funding housing & mental health care
