I met a nonbinary student in college who grew up in France but chose to leave largely because they felt restricted by the language not having neutral pronouns or conjugations. There were more factors than that but meeting someone who would go so far to transition really opened my eyes

They can't create a counter narrative to ANYTHING Republicans say or do, it's beyond pathetic

"He owns the chaos" but you're voting for it?

You can pay a subscription fee to access the Brooklyn library's ebook program if you're out of state! They're not the only library that offers it either. And in Ohio for example, you just have to be a state resident to get a library card at ANY Ohio library district

I read like 17 books last year through Libby, thought I would hate reading on my phone but I honestly prefer it to a physical book now. It replaced doomscrolling for me haha

Harris didn’t lose because of trans issues or even Palestine. She lost because democrats do not have even vaguely coherent ideas on how to improve the conditions of working people. The end

I grew up in a very conservative, Christian area in the US and I partially credit the "war on Christmas" stuff with snapping me out of it. Like it was obvious to even child me that somebody saying Happy Holidays at Macy's wasn't oppressing anyone lol

Sure I would like good writing all the time but I kind of love media like this, the "but this could be so much better!" feeling is more captivating to me than "that was just good but not great". I'll think about how a poorly written novel could have been better much more than just a decent one

Even on a smaller scale, starting sports (martial arts) as an adult woman was huge for me in that I met a community of like minded women and feel more confident in my body than ever before. It's something I think all women should do for more than just fitness or practical reasons

Commented this elsewhere, but make your submissions believable! Yes copy pastas are fun but it's very easy to filter out any submissions with "Shrek" or "Elon" in it, if you want to poison the dataset and waste their time you have to try for realism

Copy pastas are funny but it'll be way harder to spot and filter out your submission if you make it look believable!

It's not much to hold onto but the fact that the right has such enormous control over every political narrative and can still barely win elections does give me some hope that things can be turned around, I just don't know what that looks like

I think this actually makes me want to play it???

My bigger concern is that, without coherent policy and messaging, they don't retain power and just set up another Trump. Thats if they can be reelected while running on nothing besides "we're not Trump" and we've seen how well that's been working lol

I'm trying not to doom all the time but it already looks like a (deliberate?) missed opportunity to start with USAID and not, like, the Treasury. Treasury would be more important and just better optics all around

And it won't happen! Conservatives are never going to look at their grocery bill or their benefits being stripped away and blame Republicans for it, they live in a completely different information sphere that Dems are making no effort to breach

They're waiting for the public tide to turn against Republicans while doing nothing to turn the tide themselves, just hoping they can ride back into office if the pendulum swings to the left without having to do or offer anything themselves

Yeah, and even without Fox, look at how well the "weird" messaging worked for those few weeks. Dems have the ability to shape narratives without a huge media apparatus backing them up, the frustration comes from their reluctance to ever go on the offensive

That seems like something an opposition party should get on ASAP!
Anyway enjoy your long weekend grandpa!
