Donald Trump has disgraced the United States of America in countless ways since he first entered political life ten years ago. But he had never disgraced the nation as badly as he did today. He has brought shame on this country to an extent I had never thought possible. And he has only just begun.

what a day

Shitty people, shitty values, shitty culture.

Generally Trump, the Trump administration, and Trump supporters can be predicted by asking this question: how would a bully handle this? Bullies are weak and insecure and favor other bullies. Hence the craven support for Putin. /1

Any path out of autocracy will require welcoming and accommodating the Emily Andersons of the world. I know this. And yet . . .

this poll says to me that a lot of americans just think everything is a TV show with zero consequence www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-a...

I have to say that the fact that the people destroying the country are such fucking morons kind of stings.

Dear @Doge If there is nothing to hide. Hide nothing

I wrote a book - or finished a book - I guess I should say. That’s where I’ve been. And to those that have asked about how I feel about things. I feel this way.

"DOGE has no authority": Attorneys general plan to sue to block Musk's data access: Representatives of more than a dozen states said they hope to DOGE's "unacceptable" federal rampage

A king in the White House, utterly unrestrained & above the law. A party in control of Congress, utterly devoted to the king, and not the Constitution. An unelected oligarch, the king’s patron, firing federal employees & taking control of federal databases. Yes, it’s a constitutional crisis.

!!!!

Elon’s response to a post simply naming the 6 people he has working for him inside our government. Apparently, it is a crime for the American people to know who they are.

Endorse. This is the most effective way for allies to counter Trump/Musk. Don't be coy; don't be diplomatic. Target their attack surfaces.

Our Vichy State’s paper of record, Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal, which calls it, “The Dumbest Trade War in History.” open.substack.com/pub/charlies...

I don't think outlets are doing a good job laying out the very real legal problems with Trump and his boss, Elon Musk, unilaterally dismantling USAID. This is a VERY good and useful rundown www.justsecurity.org/107267/can-p...

"Donald Trump has done one salutary service for the nation: He’s obliterated the myth that there is anything politically or morally redeeming about concentrated presidential power." It's taken us two centuries to learn. New from Patrick Eddington:

The first rule of an insurgency is to survive. That holds for peaceful insurgencies as well. Because they won’t necessarily distinguish.

“President Donald Trump and his sidekick Elon Musk—nominated for no federal office, employed by no federal agency, accountable to no one—are racing on several fronts to undermine laws, procedures, and norms that would constrain their arbitrary exercise of power.” @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social

Folks, he was impeached twice. You seriously think he cares if you impeach him a third time?

This is correct.

Yes. People never learn.

The sense of betrayal I hear from my Canadian friends is palpable and bitter. And they are absolutely right.

I know there’s a lot going on right now but it’s important to keep things in perspective and focus on what really matters. Hunter’s laptop.

We rightly focus so much on Trump’s dishonesty, corruption, authoritarianism, and lawlessness, that we just don’t say this other obvious truth enough: He’s an idiot. I mean, he is a stupid, ignorant human being. He’s an idiot.

As frustrated & angry as we all are, I implore folks not to play footsie with violence. It is not the way. It certainly isn’t welcome on my timeline. If I see a post, repost, etc. encouraging or implying violence as the solution it’s an automatic block.

“The most immediate task for the anti-Trump coalition in these early months of 2025 is to avoid more mistakes,” @davidfrum.bsky.social writes. “Build unity from the center, rather than indulge the factionalism of the ultra-left.”

This is coming, maybe in this initial blitzkrieg or maybe 6 months or a year from now, but it’s coming: Trump will seek to withdraw the U.S. from NATO.

Spiegel reports that Musk now also has access to sensitive data of competitors with regard to their financial dealings with the government.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad. There’s not.

"It took immense courage to create our constitutional republic, and now immense cowardice is placing our system of justice under threat." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/02/o...

As bad as things are with the unelected Elon Musk running around with his fake gov’t agency, just wait until Tulsi freaking Gabbard is running intelligence.

Bernie Sanders: "We are living in an unprecedented moment in American history. We are looking at a rapid growth of oligarchy. We are looking at a rapid growth of authoritarianism. And I fear we're looking at a rapid growth of kleptocracy as well."

Even more true now than a few days ago. Read this:

beyond parody

Way back in 2016, @GOP believed the truth: the economy is just a complex set of interactions between people, and govt should facilitate that. Tariffs are the opposite. It’s big govt. And they say I changed. LOL

1/2 In less than 2 weeks Trump has: (1) created rifts with Denmark, Panama, Canada, and Mexico (2) pardoned all the J6rs, including the most violent (3) begun in earnest his purge of DOJ and FBI (4) installed the most unqualified SecDef in history; (5) created chaos with his spending freezes;
