Hot diggity dawg Google did not come to play.

Oooh it's time to get real angry about fish again

So are there any decent apps that let you read X, Bluesky and Mastodon all in a single interface? Because I find it bonkers this doesn't exist yet.

It's that time of year again.

Just imagine it.

We should have Blobby read our votes out next year. #eurovision

As someone who tries to keep on top of both twitter and this, nothing makes the difference starker than #Eurovision

Jamelle prompted me to buy this and wow, I really hope a lot of young people read and internalize this shit!!!! I kinda can't believe this got published lol

My hot #Eurovision2025 take is that Australia was absolutely robbed youtu.be/EJ0RdIU_G8g...

Someone really should try and replicate this! Any keen @sebp-uk.bsky.social members? Also, i vaguely remember a similar evaluation at a recent conference with similarly big effects... Ring bells for anyone?

Is anybody tracking/mapping mobile phones "dead zones" around #London? Max bars but just... no data? Because they're making me increasingly grumpy.

I continue to be confused as to why this trial needs to be quite so long. Surely we have all the evidence we need at this stage to let me buy the monowheel I've wanted for a decade...? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Striking how little discourse there has been on this, other than from the nationalist right. Does seem pretty in line with the "go for growth" ambition? BBC News - Chris Mason: Can Delhi deal mask Labour's problems at home? www.bbc.com/news/article...

Okay crime people, riddle me this London reported recording mystery: how come shoplifting and theft person have risen at very similar rates, while robbery person is still barely over where it was 2 months after a national lockdown?

Me building local bulletin boards on the @meshtastic.org lora radio network while all my colleagues are building on cutting edge AI models

The important PSA I didn't know I needed today youtu.be/f7lo98PcZD4...

Yeaaaah, feeling a bit seen.

Just bought this VHS on eBay, and I am *excited*

My reaction seeing a brand new Tesla showroom opened just off Oxford Circus...

This is super compelling. Gonna try out this app. In a randomized trial, individuals with blocked internet access experience greater mental health. This replicates in a delayed treatment arm.

OOO we've so back babaaaaayyy!!! https://reboot.digg.com/

Wow, so Daredevil Born Again doesn't screw around with the very unsubtle messaging around justice, thuggery and power does it...

Lovely line.

So, I don't know a lot about #pypi. I want to know more! Seems like it's faster to get things up on it than on CRAN, but what else is different? Love seeing all these downloads of the #pydytuesday pkg!! Andreas even overhauled it to add some more command line functions! Thank you, Andreas! #databs

Celebration thread 🧵 1/! Years ago, I released (then immediately forgot about) PydyTuesday, a Python library to easily download #TidyTuesday datasets. Some nice folks recently told me they'd been finding it useful... and looking at the Pypi stats, turns out they're not alone!

They had me at "cultural and social technology.' As a social scientist in an engineering faculty, I often have to explain the notion of social technology e.g. I conceive of ideology as a normative, semantic social technology, which makes it way easier to generate hypotheses about its role.

So these are obviously ridiculous, but also my inner crime scientist *really* wishes I could run a proper randomised evaluation on these things because... I suspect they do a decent job reducing shoplifting?

I had so much fun digging into Type Help at the weekend. william-rous.itch.io/type-help It's another detectivey information game, on a dark and stormy night, but with a juicy, original and ultimately chilling mystery at its core.

Very interesting from @jpinasanchez.bsky.social on "[t]he claim of 240% higher odds of incarceration for ethnic minority offenders, cited in the Lammy Review and echoed in subsequent publications and debates", which the paper states was "factually incorrect". www.crimrxiv.com/pub/js8s1mt8...

Rather notable that the main coins mentioned here are those used (in my view) primarily for scamming, memecoins and speculation. ETH and BTC, which are, you know, genuinely interesting technical and financial experiments, are clearly something of an afterthought.

This is such a shame. 18F had a reputation for excellence across the international #civicTech and #govTech community, and disbanding it because it's too "woke" is tragic. https://18f.org/

Russia's response to Trump's tantrum says it all really:

Well, this is depressing.
