For the record, I am not an evangelist, I wish AI never existed! I just don't think the "It's not profitable" angle is good or effective, and the "it doesn't work" is just cope.

Why so rude man, it's a discussion

The most obvious: AI is amazing at coding now, and only getting better. Human coders cost a ton. AI makes them WAY more productive (I am one) - companies need less of them (or can accomplish more with the same number) this is like simple math, undisputed by anyone except weird "AI doesn't work" ppl

Nothing big is profitable immediately. People said "Uber/Netflix/Amazon isn't profitable!" for years until they inevitably were. It's not just a doomed argument, but who does "OpenAI aren't making enough money" even resonate with if you want regulations or something around AI?

I know everyone else is saying stuff like this but why don't you and me start a crypto sports gambling company. I know it hasn't traditionally been your focus, and I don't know how it works but I need the money

I guess the DCs use more water than I think, but even then I still feel like it's weird to say "they're using water" rather than "they're using fossil fuels to process the water they use" or whatever. I know I'm not correct here haha, it just seems so weird to me.

Sort of like.. it seems like the craziest thing to focus on. Like even if they used a LOT of water, water doesn't like, disappear - don't get me wrong, I know I'm explaining my point badly and it's probably not great, but it just seems so weird to me.

I know gamers do this, but the datacenters I've been in have never been water-heavy that I can tell - it's all air conditioning, but I guess I'm also explaining my point badly, like - focusing on the water is, to me anyway, like saying "My car radiator only uses a little bit of water"

I don't get why the comparison is always water - wouldn't a better metric be like, electricity or something?
comment in response to post
I am literally unsure if people think the world is like.. running out of water?? Why use it as the comparison? Computers run on electricity generated by things like coal, solar, whatever.. why does everyone talk about WATER.

And that is NOT just a testament to how low the bar is

Glad you are only coming on to here to post your best thoughts every few months

This is what I don't get: Saying that AI just doesn't work that well is such a bad/doomed argument - the environmental/surveillance/etc. arguments are soooooo much stronger - why doesn't everyone arguing about this stuff just focus on that?

Anil is correct here. I recently signed into an old account that I had never really used to look up a walled tweet. I wound up going back there for a couple of weeks to read some tech discussion, but I had to quit because the amount of CRAZY stuff that comes in by default was too huge a bummer.

hahaha ohhh yeah that's different then! What is his logic that it is EXPENSIVE to start a bank account too. . that seems weird, although I dunno, I haven't started one in a long time

I agree with this but I also think maybe if he said they get paid and THEN stick all their money in a gambling app, that would actually be very realistic to me based on people I knew in my 20s

I love speech-to-text as well, but if you're posting to a million theoretical people take the 5 seconds to check it got the words right.

I assumed this was a joke someone had made, but I guess it's true, however the guy did add at least some context:

or like "AI companies pay too much to buy other companies"... yes, this is the big problem with AI...

Yeah the historical data is really great, it had the correct sales price for a domain I sold where I can't even find that info online myself. I'm def. keeping this bookmark saved
comment in response to post
I tested this on 3 or 4 domains earlier when you linked it and it seemed dead-on, but I just showed it to someone and we both ran the same domain and it told me $80,000 and him $220,000... still pretty good, but prettttttty non-deterministic

Oh yeah whenever I see you link this I think I should check it out sometime!!

I had this realization at 6:30am in that mind state between sleep and awake

They are so insane!! Right wing behaviour imo

Was that ever proven though, I saw that when it was first floated and it seemed like just some guy's big brain theory based on nothing.

I never actually have chicken on pizza EXCEPT I had some buffalo chicken pizza in Buffalo, NY about 2 years ago and it was the best pizza I've ever had.
