Reform UK seem very quiet about this. Can’t think why…🤔

The BBC was set up to appeal to the better angels of people’s nature, not their bigotry.

That this motley crew of chancers and charlatans could ever be (as Donald Trump appears to believe himself) “in charge” (rather than governing our country on our behalf and in our best interests) is evidence that the system we use to replicate democracy does not serve us well.

Just came across this. Still relevant. Still crushingly depressing. There was always a blithe assumption that somehow throwing away everything that EU membership gave us would magically improve the UK’s relations with other countries. That does perhaps explain the rise of the Reform UK:

Back to the future: “summer holidays when we met with wealthier Europeans with nicer cars.” I think it was Janan Ganesh who came up with the image of Brits standing at airport baggage carousels, looking around them, wondering why the French and Germans were so much better dressed:

Britain at a crossroads: Finance, industry and the global adjustment

So I was going to do a long, self-indulgent thread on being White British, but here’s a self-indulgent 4 page essay instead: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/q6221...

@stellacreasy.bsky.social would it make sense to have a cross-party ERG dedicated to researching and finding solutions to the challenges facing the UK rejoining the EU?

Our electoral system ensures that we tend to elect children (but not in a good way):

More evidence that the voting systems we use neither serve us well nor adequately replicate democracy.

Any French property lawyers or property lawyer adjacent people on here. It’s a bit of an emergency (for a friend)?
