Yes, that's right. But I wonder if that's not a bit abstract for some people... the zero point quantum energy is beautiful but never happens in biology.
On the other hand, the incessant movement of atoms is not quantum mechanical but rather the basis of temperature (you do mention it briefly).

As so often, Wikipedia has a really excellent explanation:

Also, not sure if I missed it but another point you might add would be the Debye-Waller Factor (structural biologists know it as the B-factor or temperature factor).
Even cryogenically frozen atoms in crystals are vibrating - this reduces the intensity of scattered x-rays.
Morę indeterminacy...

This is superb.
Just one little correction, on p16, irrelevant for your arguments: electrons are not released from visual rhodopsin (I don't see that in the review you cited either). Rather, there is a rearrangement of the electrons in retinal (the pigment) after photon absorption.

That's charming though...like an old lawnmower...

For some reason this comes to mind. You will either love it or hate it. Probably the best one they did.

Strategic mistakes seem to be pervasive in Berlin Universities (enabled by a light touch from local govt). Perhaps last time we over performed and this is regression to the mean.
No doubt that states that invest in potential clusters do better than those that don't (e.g. Berlin).
