Israel is starving Palestinian men, women and children, and then shooting them as they queue desperately for food. This is a racist, reckless, genocidal regime that will do *anything* to stay in power and achieve its ethnic cleansing goal, including starting a regional war. It must be stopped.

The spineless international response to Jamal Khashoggi's assassination taught Mohammed bin Salman a valuable lesson: his regime can kill its critics, the US, UK and EU will express vague 'human rights concerns,' but there will be no consequences.

I rant about this a lot but I can’t for the life of me understand why BBC 6 Music News gives a daily update of how many people crossed the channel in small boats yesterday From a news values perspective alone, it makes no sense

Mad to think this guy is Paul Marshall's business partner. Fair to say they're spending their money quite differently!

I found @firdosem.bsky.social's reaction to SA winning the World Test Champs v moving, as well as excellent radio commentary, filled with love and appreciation for the game and for her country.

This article is *wild* and very scary. Have no idea how governments will regulate AI but the current wild west is pretty terrifying, for all sorts of reasons.

Khuza’a, a town in the Khan Younis governorate, used to be home to 11,000 Palestinians. In less than two weeks, it was reduced to rubble by Israeli forces. Amnesty’s latest analysis of satellite imagery & video footage shows how Israeli forces are destroying civilian areas across Gaza.

This is a real thing being posted and circulated by the Department of Homeland Security, referring to undocumented immigrants as “foreign invaders” and urging good Americans to turn them in. (I’ll leave it to BlueSky historians to find comparisons to WWII era materials.)

i've been trying to see what the right wing platforms (even outside of X) are showing people regarding the protests in LA and i am not sure it can be overstated just how much the AI slop is being used to reinforce the idea that downtown is a post-apocalyptic war zone

"Maybe they really were immigration officers, just as they claimed. Or maybe they were a ragtag vigilante group, arbitrarily snatching brown-looking people off the street." These are Brownshirts and this is fascism.

If you go to X and search for "Ballymena" then about 50% of the "top" search results are far right, racist posters sowing misinformation and effectively endorsing the violence. You do have to wonder at what point governments actually try to get to grips with this sort of stuff.

Makes sense. Guantánamo is the globally recognised symbol of US contempt for the rule of law - of course it appeals to Trump. Obama should have closed it when he had the chance...

"You know what solves it?” he said, when asked how to fix America. “When the economy crashes, when the country goes to total hell and everything is a disaster… you’ll have riots to go back to where we used to be when we were great.” Trump on Fox News, 2014

Google and Meta search both report that Cape Breton Island has its own time zone 12 minutes ahead of mainland Nova Scotia time because they are both drawing that information from a Beaverton article I wrote in 2024

It’s not just that it’s clearly intentional, it’s that it’s clearly intentional knowing that he’s being recorded. They know they can do whatever they want with complete impunity.

Paying massively increased Thames Water bill with hate in my heart for everyone who enabled and profited from privatisation of this essential industry.

“Raises questions”

Should we follow Putin out of the ECHR? Or is it just another Brexit where we give up our rights in the vain pursuit of making migrants disappear?

The NYT has a similar headline. His deportation was not an "administrative error" - this is Trump admin spin after a court ordered his return. He was just one man illegally stripped of his rights by a racist political project. No mistake about it.

Twitter: this is how men with huge balls fight. This is what masculinity looks like Bluesky: this is the first messy breakup of pride month

In amongst all the excitement I fear many have missed this outstanding bit of trolling by Friedrich Merz. The Chancellor gifted Trump a gilded framed copy of his grandfather’s German birth certificate... reminding Americans that Trump is both the child and grandchild of migrants.

👉 NEW - Why is the UK sheltering Israel's genocide-inciting ambassador? by @jonathan-cook.bsky.social It is long past time Tzipi Hotovely was expelled from London. Starmer’s inaction proves he has no intention of stopping his support for Israel's crimes. www.declassifieduk.org/why-is-the-u...

The bigger question is how someone could lose $34billion in a day and how it likely makes no difference to that individual. What a system.

Wife: oh hey you are back early from your fishing trip how did it go? Me: octopus have gone woke Wife: what? Me (reappearing from boat house with shotgun) Octopus have gone woke.

To cheer everyone up, here is an anecdote about when David Bowie was filming the video for Ashes to Ashes.

“In 2020, according to ProPublica, at least eighteen billionaires filed tax returns so deftly assembled that they were eligible for pandemic stimulus checks. When Bezos was worth eighteen billion dollars, back in 2011, he qualified for a child tax credit.” Evan Osnos, in New Yorker (HT Helen Lewis)

Edgar from the Outsiders project. He was originally from Colombia but left because of the drug cartels. I was told his council flat was a terrible slum, but when I arrived he had refurbished it using discarded wood he found in skips all around London. He was an artisan, unable to work due to the

This is such an obvious miscarriage of justice and the British legal system's failure to recognise it as such is damning.

Endless media pieces hyping Oasis as the cultural event of the summer, and Supergrass - a better band, with better songs - are out there touring venues where you can get right down the front without 'dynamic pricing'.

I wish journalists would stop framing political news as wins or losses for politicians or political parties. It’s an abrogation of our mission. Why do we keep doing this? Is the spending bill a win or loss for the American people? Who does it help? Who does it hurt? Is it sound policy? Fiscally?

I said it would get worse very quickly. By tomorrow we will have completed the most dangerous & frightening 24 hours thus far of Trump 2.0. Just to name a few: 1. Defiance of a court order by sending migrants to Sudan without due process (despite clear DP decision SCOTUS) & Dist. CT. order.

The "he says, she says" model isn't just bad journalism: it's anti-journalism, because it abdicates the core journalistic responsibility to establish the facts & report them. And it feeds the model of politics as a spectator sport, in which the role of the commentator is just to describe the play.

If anyone was wondering what cursed City’s season

Erling Haaland in finals with Man City: 7 games 0 goals 0 assists

This is jaw-dropping journalism and presentation from BBC Africa Eye, recommended to me by Kenyan colleagues.

"We reject, as fundamentally racist, the argument that those born British who hold dual citizenship can be deprived of their British passport while those with no foreign heritage cannot." Strong comment piece in the FT from Lord Alf Dubs and @Jacob_Rees_Mogg

A British national gets ten years in prison and neither his family nor his lawyer nor the Foreign Office even know what he's been charged with. "This is what can happen when the UK government fails to stand up for the rights of its citizens arbitrarily detained overseas." @reprievehq.bsky.social

One again, this is simply not true. Non-UK origin employeea have (slightly) higher median earnings than UK-origin ones -and the gap has if anything widened (slightly) recently.

Why trying to out-Farage Farage is just never going to work for Labour. The most hardline, anti-migrant set of policies from any UK Government in recent years and the Daily Mail still portrays it as a betrayal

"Meanwhile your club has no money. Your council has no money. Your government has no money. Your family has no money. Everyone you know is fighting ever more bitterly over smaller and smaller slices of what we once comically believed was our common inheritance." 👏🏼✊🏼@jonathanliew.bsky.social
