We need to stand united with anyone prepared to stand up and denounce Trumpism. Talking down to them and alienating them won't help us achieve what we need to achieve.

I've always wondered how wrapping a thin strip of material around your neck and tying it in a particular style of knot became the uniform for running the world too, and how that got decided upon. And why, if you were to use a different style of knot, people will laugh and say you're unqualified.

Oh well. Us quiet people who don't feel the need to be outraged over absolutely everything really quite like you. Rumour has it we could be the majority of all people too.

In the UK, we use the term "wankpanzer" to refer to a pointlessly large truck or SUV which is purchased as a boost to a driver's ego who is likely to have some kind of inferiority complex.

Aww, I love your posts. They always brighten up my timeline and make me smile. I'm just not much of a talker or a reply-er. I hope people on here are not being mean though.

Thankfully he corrected you though. When the world is on fire and institutions are breaking down, the most important thing we can all do is to remember to say the name of a popular brand of penetrating oil correctly. Otherwise, there's no hope for us.

They were great times to grow up. The microcomputer all happened when I was a young kid and they started getting them in schools, so learned to code that way. Probably the opportunities to learn more advanced stuff were better over in US (hence my bookshelf) but they were still exciting times 😀

I see - I work for a well known UK broadcaster on content management, and databases, and writing Java services, and have done for too many years. But it's never too late for a change. That was the idea of studying physics. Some kind of programming job in the scientific realm would be perfect.

Same here, although they tend to join us on graduate programmes after they've completed their degree. And we've got a few who are apprentices and doing degrees at the same time. It's a great part of the job though.

Fair enough - it was like that at the beginning for me, but I'm a bit bored with it now. But maybe I just need a more interesting programming job, or teaching is always an option too I suppose. I do get a lot out of working with younger engineers who are just starting out in their careers.

Yeah, life does have a habit of getting in the way unfortunately. But we're both still young ... ish 😀 - plenty of time still.

Oh right? - I'm about 15 years away from retirement now, although hoping a bit earlier if I'm lucky, then get back to being able to concentrate on music. I wish you a happy retirement when it comes though. Hopefully you can get a bit more poetry published, or just geek out to your heart's content 😆

😀 - yeah, I studied music first time round at uni, but went into software engineering to pay the bills. And the physics is just me getting bored and wanting a new challenge. Can't bring myself to throw out my old programming books though, even though they're completely irrelevant these days.

Haha - that looks exactly like my bookcase.

Probably not having a 3.5 litre V8 would have also helped.

And in exchange, Russia gave Fiat a load of crappy steel with loads of impurities in it, which is why all Fiats from that era rusted away so badly.

No, I do get it. It's about money.
comment in response to post
Right, I get it - so it's about the money? And not really about wanting to prevent any loss of life or funding the military industrial complex as you originally claimed it was. Like I said, just be honest if that's what it's really about. Also, I'm confused as to what vaccines have to do with this.
comment in response to post
No, I'm getting it I think. So war is ok if America is attacked, but not ok if Russia attacks anyone else. And everyone else should just surrender to them. But America is special and if they're invaded you would fight and not worry about the deaths or the military industrial complex.
comment in response to post
But you would support war if Russia invaded your country? You literally just said so. So all you're really saying is, "I don't give a fuck because it's happening to other people elsewhere" whilst dressing it up as being a pacifist.
comment in response to post
Well you started off by saying, "I just understand that thousands of innocent people keep dying so the military industrial complex can make a buck." - now you are saying, "Ukraine can fuck off because we don't give a shit." At least be honest enough to say that in the first place.

Yeah, my parents. They're old now. But I always tried to appreciate the time I'd spend with them years ago when they weren't so old, and told myself this time would come one day.

I hear this from Americans all the time, people who I regard to be pretty intelligent people in other areas. What would they do if Russia invaded Florida, or Texas? Go, "oh, ok - just take it, because we're against war and don't want to support the Military Industrial Complex."

How dare they say Velma is not hot. I won't stand for this.

I'd pay that pilot good money to perform a barrel roll right at that exact moment.
