I think population decline in the short term is good. We're overpopulated 4 times over on this planet. The problems are that it exposes the fundamental flaws of our growth at all cost economy and posted us to radical shifts or collapse. But there's no reason we couldn't have a steady state economy.

You hit the nail. If people had a reasonably secure job, even with lower salaries , they would be more at peace in life. What we have is terrible insecurity even at the so called high flying jobs, with mandatory firing quotas. recipe for constant anxiety and inconducive to raising families
