We did have a model that worked.
Unfortunately, geopolitical interests took advantage of deeply rooted sinophobia and wrecked our defences.

MAGA will continue to be diverted onto the patsy, not realising they are the dinner not the diner.

Yes, I use "America" to mean the ruling power.
American people are identifying less and less with the class that's devouring them.

Good luck. It's horrible to watch people being thrown under the bus by him and his billionaire backers.

What China's membership of the WTO and their affordable goods, due to vast economies of scale as well as cheap labour, was hiding:
Reagan's transfer of wealth from workers to the rich in huge tax cuts.
Scapegoating China for the elite's greed is gaslighting us.
"Look over there!"

"US consumers got richer with cheaper goods, but ... a profound loss of manufacturing to East Asia."
Apart from disguising Reagan's transfer of wealth to rich, the idea was US workers upscaled to higher paid jobs while China became the world's factory on low wages. Vast profits for US.

"In 2001, as the world was distracted by the aftermath of 9/11, China joined the WTO"
So they snuck in, did they?Funny, I thought they were invited by Clinton from 1997 & welcomed by Bush.
Desperate sinophobic spin.

Nice thread. This stuff is embedded at such a deep level, most people don't even know they are party to it.

Chinese are capable of altruism. Prioritising "influence" is a fetish that not everyone outside the western empire shares.

China's always early with aid & rescue teams, even in Haiti. Of course, the western media rarely report it as they have a demonising propaganda war to wage.

It had to be said. They have an ugly agenda. GBD defies all decency & science in order to keep open the economy at all costs.

No but I remember when China saved Australia from the worst of America's Great Crash in 2008 and now all the governments can do is throw your resources into war on your biggest local customer.

Koch, Sumption, Vallance & "herd immunity" et al.
There was a concerted effort by the right to put business interests before public health.

"Free Elections" shaped by a biased media and then all pledges reversed.

Awful but all we can do is grumble.
It's not a democracy if there are no powers to change anything for the electorate who votes in the government.
Nothing changes except more rip-offs.

Add this to the fall of the Roman Empire and the end of the Ancien Regime.

It is effing horrific. They're even trying to coup us in the UK.
Starmer may be a grotesque war-mongering sh*t-head but he's our democratically elected grotesque war-mongering sh*t-head & we'd prefer not to be bombed to be saved, thank you very much, if you don't mind.

No masks to be seen in the UK. No info in the media. The IPC that writes the guidance still insists it's droplets, not airborne.
Alarming western turn in March 2020.

Lovely to see Piccadilly's still on the radar.
We pitched Anna May Wong to the BBC on her centenary but were turned down bc "no-one's heard of her". Finally made A Celestial Star in Piccadilly, broadcast in 2009.
Good luck with the blu-ray.
