Doing so in Cincinnati.

I watched this live on CSPAN this morning and wondered if there would be backlash. What’s his name - the speaker - looked visibley uncomfortable. OK, so I was amused because the prayer was rather long. 😊

Exactly! I heard on a podcast the other day that we should stop comparing DJT to Hitler. The point was made “Hitler was uniquely evil.” Yes, but the German people weren’t. When I was a kid, I said to my mom, “that could never happen here”. She had a visceral reaction… “Don’t EVER say that”.

I know nothing about creating a website. But I do know that the bar and grill up the street has a better one than this amateurish looking piece of crap.

History people. Am I wrong in thinking that either Hitler or Mussolini (I think it’s was Mussolini) somehow took over the arts/theater when in power? I vaguely remember reading that probably in a book about fascism. Or maybe I’m imagining it?

Are you sure this didn’t come from The Onion?
comment in response to

One of the proudest moments of my life was the first time my daughter performed at the Kennedy Center. That this man would presume to judge what art is worthy and what is not breaks my heart - more than anything else he’s done. And that’s going some!

The math? Ok

That’s a very sweeping generalization about 70,000,000 people. And in all honesty, I have thought since 2015 that we dismiss as unreasonable our fellow citizens at our own peril. I know that the idea of supporting that man is head shaking…

My mom had dementia and talked about the past incessantly. Trump talks constantly about past administrations. I’ve always attributed it to narcissistic rage but 🤷🏻♀️. And what’s with this obsession regarding the price of eggs? Processed foods with zero nutritional value are way more expensive.

I disagree.Tens of millions of people voted for Trump. There are certainly reasonable people among them who truly thought he’d just lower prices and get something done about immigration. I don’t think they all bargained for this. Maybe MAGA was a bad choice of words (Is that a word a word now? 🧐).
comment in response to

I don’t know. I got off of X and I certainly don’t regret it. But it seems to me like BlueSky is millions of people preaching to the choir. Plus I now have no real gauge of how MAGA is reacting to Trump.

Angry for me. Scared for my grandchildren.

I kind of agree with you. First you learn to read, then you read to learn. That said, my first grade granddaughter can read anything - with comprehension. I was still snoring to See Spot run in 1st grade. But I have also worked with teenagers who can’t add 3 numbers without a calculator. 🤷🏻♀️

The evidence suggests no. We haven’t taken anything seriously yet up to and including the suggestion of ethnic cleansing.

Thanks. I did see that after I
Posed the question.

You mention natural resources. Am I wrong in thinking that the XL pipeline that MAGA was so upset about is owned by a Canadian company and moving Canadian oil into the US? I don’t really know much about this stuff, but I’ve been wondering re: these tariffs.

Yeah. I feel like I want to sit back and watch them self-destruct. I lost count years ago of the number of times I boarded a bus to DC or wrote letters to show my support for one cause or the other. When my kids got older, I brought them along and taught them to be voices for good. Now I feel spent.

Boy you are combative. The plurality of people are Catholic. But it’s the majority religion. And really, who cares?

Ha! You sound like such a Bostonian. 😊

Not the majority of people, no. But they are the majority religion in the states I mentioned. I’m just trying to have a reasonable conversation. My intention was to address JD Vance’s Catholicism
and how it really doesn’t align with my experience (which I clearly stated) as a Catholic.
comment in response to

Catholics are a minority in the US. But the states which are majority Catholic, tend to be blue (MA and RI, for example). Main line Protestant churches tend to lean more left as well. But evangelicals tend to be very right wing and they are the majority in red states.
comment in response to

From my experience, cradle Catholics don’t think like JD Vance. Especially those who went to Catholic school and had issues of social justice drummed into their heads.

That’s really smart. Now Oklahoma’s immigrant population will be uneducated. I don’t know the actual stats, but I personally know an immigrant family that came here legally, but couldn’t afford to renew all their paperwork. They’ve been here for decades. Thankfully, their children were educated.

I’m no lawyer, but how can she say in one breath that undocumented immigrants are criminals because it’s against the law to enter the country illegally and in the next breath say that Trump’s exec order is not unconstitutional because they are not subject to the jurisdiction of the US? Huh?

I didn’t say you. But I will
say this; I think that anyone who thinks the press should avoid cute, human interest stories in the midst of any national crisis may have it wrong. And not to be one of those jerky people, but you are using quotes incorrectly.

I read the NYTimes each morning and it sets the tone of Trump related anxiety. The times is not bending it’s knee to Trump. Not by a long shot. I missed this story in my doom scrolling, but I’m glad I saw it here and that it put a smile on my face. Why would I let that man rob me of simple joy?

I remember age being something of an issue with Reagan when he first ran. He was 69!! And though I’ve kinda had it with Boomer bashing. I must admit, we are the Peter Pan generation. We simply refuse to call ourselves old. Give it up!! Time to pass that torch.

I’ve been using public women’s restrooms for going on 70 years and I have never once seen the anatomy of another person (except on a changing table). Women’s restrooms have stalls. I could have been peeing next to guys my whole life without knowing it. And why would I care?

I heard this earlier. Between this and the caller I heard on CSpan this morning saying that she voted for Trump basically because we need an autocrat during this “crisis”…. I put the cocktail flag up. No help to our beloved country, but it’s settling my nerves. God help us.

I watched Biden. I didn’t watch Trump in 2017 because I was on my way to DC for the women’s march. This year, I turned off the TV, poured a glass of wine, and did a jigsaw puzzle.
