Oh sir, I take my hat off to your comedic genius. Underlay, indeed.

I would have to wake up before seven to be one of the lucky few to get through the on-line triage system before it closes for the day at approximately quarter past. That will get me a phone call with a receptionist or maybe a nurse. Seeing a GP in person? Not since before the pandemic.

Me neither.

I mean he's right. It is very simple to stop the little boats going across the Channel. Wipe out the people traffickers' business. Let people apply for asylum in the UK in Calais.

We are meant to sing that like the first lyrics from Britney Spears' Toxic, right?

What I do know by now is that you're not interested in an actual exchange of views. Just arguing. Goodbye.

It's an island, yes, but it's really only the South East of England that's badly crowded. Rebalance the economy across the regions. Old industries have left plenty of brownfield. But yes, build on golf courses that are actually bad for biodiversity.

Always. You're next.

We also get an even bigger population increase in already crowded parts of the South East and locals being priced out of places like Brighton & Hove.
comment in response to

Is that DFLs? They're the ones coming to the South East so that we have to build more houses on green land?

Bono? A) he's Irish and B) he hasn't been 'cool' since 1987.

It's wrong to suggest that Swedes are overly free with the English swear words because they don't understand the context. They do. They/we swear just as freely in our native Swedish as well, even in front of children. We think the British and the US are ridiculously prissy about this - and nudity.

Nobody's saying there should be NO limit on immigration, but with an aging population, Britain needs hard-working immigrants.
comment in response to

No. Not inevitably. It depends on demographics, on who you let in, and on how much you invest in your infrastructure.

All very well and good if we had a functional social care system...

Yrs, but as an immigrant, things are also getting decidedly unwelcoming. Yes, to control of immigration, but can we dial down the rhetoric?

agree! although I think for me it's swimsuits, jumpsuits anything all-in-one.

I get: But we don't mean YOU! A lot. I make them uncomfortable. Why not? They want to say: because you're white, but they know that's not an okay thing to say. Some will talk about religion.

I'm not Canadian but that certainly how it looks, superficially - all about me and not 100% professional.

Sönder is still a common Swedish word for broken.

They won't acknowledge that. They'll just say: Oh, but we don't mean YOU! (just all the other ones, presumably). It's so depressing.

a society where "bad immigrants" are demonised is a society where no immigrant can truly feel welcome, because aren't we all just one wrong turn or accident away from being unemployed? on disability benefits? unable to care for our children without state help? just no such thing as a safe immigrant

I think these politicians forget how many of their voters are immigrants, spouses/partners of immigrants, and children/grandchildren of immigrants. The hostile rhetoric is certainly getting to me.

I'm sorry, but I think the whole thread shows that at least parts of this place have become just as hateful and intolerant as the other place.

The legal definition of rape is wider than in many countries, I think, and reporting focuses on the number of tapes, not victims. There is a lot of anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim exaggeration around this

Most train companies sell on-line. You can start with National Rail Enquiries. But for me, Trainline often have split save tickets that are cheaper.

Calm down and don't believe everything you read in right wing media. Bombs, yes, but not like in Ukraine, and just different rape reporting statistics.

We hunt elk/moose/älg in Sweden, but only for a couple of weeks in the autumn. Was the only time we weren't allowed to play in the forest as children 🫎

Makes no sense since men & women can join the army.
If one refuses to recognise the persons chosen gender then one still has to consider them a man or a woman.
Kick in the teeth for people who put their lives at risk serving in the forces.
Enacted by a man who would soil his nappy at the thought.
