Direct parallel with Jews in Nazi Germany. Jews made up 1% of society but were more visible in mainstream society so disaffected reactionaries made antisemitism their personality.

Tariffs against any East Asian US ally is galaxy-brain level insane. The manufacturing prowess of Japan and South Korea were actively supported by the US to support US military supply lines in East Asia. Vietnam isn't an ally yet, but would have been open to persuasion.

Have any of these people even worked in a restaurant? Like, something that's 86'd from the menu comes back as soon as you have enough ingredients?

The foundational transphobic argument of inherent differences between men and women was popularised by Cardinal Ratzinger in the 00s when he used it against gay marriage and feminism. It is normal for the Church to be anti-war, anti-hurting migrants. Pope Leo IV is toeing the party line.

What's the context/source for the John Lithgow quote? It sounds like a good read.

W. B. Yeats kind of proves your point. Writing smashed what came before, but he was a fascist/occultist in Ireland in the early 20th century so his brand of right-wing could lead to good art. I think a bigger issue is right-wing people are too blinkered to make anything interesting.

Respectfully, I think this road was lined with corporate personhood and insider trading in Washington. I get why this is unprecedented, but I also get why Americans don't care about this specific side quest of the Trump Administration.

A commonality between panic over autism rates and trans kids is believing people, especially kids, when they say they are built different. People do not want to believe autistic people. People do not want to believe trans people.

Did a 15-year-old write this? If so then fine because academic journal articles are a bit beyond their comprehension level. </sarcasm>

I read a study somewhere that suggests that if you mirror people, it has a negative impact on your auditory processing. My brain is more focused on blending in with my surroundings than genuine social engagement. π

Correct. The incels who do the line bullshit equate compassion with weakness and submission.

On a related note, here is the Trump administration's remark after backing away from attacking Harvard. All the highlighted words and phrases mean basically nothing, beyond being vague positive and negative signifiers that the Trump official is using to cover the fact they lost this battle.

No he's not. He's doing his job. The fact that a Democratic politician actually doing *something* against the fascist fuckwit takeover is considered heroism is a sign that the bar for US politicians is subterranean.

especially when that critical research/thinking changes entire narrative about the fascism and the holocaust because he's drawing on primary resources that have been out of play due to the cold war and language barriers.

When my doberman mix was a puppy, he was afraid when our neighbor across the street would beat his rug. He's socialised now, but the sound of a supersonic fighter plane would drive him to conniption. (He's be super polite to the poodle, afraid of hurting his feelings.)

πthis. Saying DeSantis' fraud is DeSantis or MAGA-specific is missing a lot of context. But then, the assumption that Republicans were civilised before MAGA is also missing a lot of context, often willfully.

I guess you could replace 'grow up' with 'have the intellectual curiosity to actually learn about how societies are built in response to or concurrently with playing the game'. Either/or.

It's almost like American union stereotypes are frozen in the 70s when they were much more culturally relevant, before Mr Jellybeans screwed them over.

I know a guy who went from "Dems want war with China. π‘" to "Trump's tarrifs are because he wants manufacturing to come home so he can wage war with China. π‘" Maybe people would understand war better if Michael Bay made a film about logistics.

There is no head of DOGE. It's either Musk, who isn't a gov't employee, or some random MAGA woman who volunteered as tribute because people were asking for a name. Congress can only hold Trump accountable, or sabotage DOGE's efforts.

It's creepy how there are people so terminally online that they can't just scroll past something that doesn't interest them. Instead they attack people for liking something they don't.
