I love when men assume that I am dumb, though to be fair I’ve only written two books about U.S. labor history so far

Feels like stating the obvious but apparently some people don’t get that it is racist to ask Mexican Americans to conceal the fact that they are Mexican to appease racists who will never like you anyway

The U.S. government is spending $134 million dollars to deploy troops in America while veterans sleep on the streets.

The Silicon Valley fascists genuinely think that technology (i.e., cool robots and spaceships) has nothing to do with science (i.e., girls filling out spreadsheets wokely). I am not being sarcastic. I know that sounds insane. But that's really what they think.

Again, these groups are attempting to retcon the 2024 election *we all lived through* to claim Dems overly catered to Big Trans or The Groups or whatever. In fact, Republicans—and via them the media—are the ones who zeroed in on the culture war while we focused on economic issues. We still lost.

When Obama and Biden won, Republicans said “fuck them, we’ll break them” and went on to rally their base. When Republicans win, Democrats blame their left and say “we’ll work with Republicans.” And it fucking sucks.

The fascist win if you lose your compassion for other people. That's part of the war. You have to keep compassion.

matt yglesiases told us to kick immigrants, trans people, and everyone horrified by the genocide we were doing out of our tent, which made our tent too small to win, so we're re-biggening our tent with more matt yglesiases

America is failing in large part due to the weakness of the Democratic Party against Republican fascism. And the blue maga mindset that you can never criticize the party — even if it means people are being hurt and killed — contributes to that weakness

In any authoritarian regime, there are people who make a livelihood by rationalizing the actions of the leadership, making them palatable to a general audience by offering analogies with reasonable theoretical statements. Their profesisonal title is usually something like "chief propagandist"

Once again I must remind you that elections are not physics, democracy is not ordained by God. All of these whole "Rights" and "Rule of law" things can fall apart with the speed and range of a grenade hitting the floor.

To be charitable: Trump does lie constantly, and in his first term threatened all sorts of things he backed down from. But it was also obvious to a lot of us this time would be quite different. What really happened the first time was a man unprepared to win was surrounded by normal political actors.

Most of the debate will centre around whether or not our social media timelines *were* this "Torment Nexus" with a wealth of evidence pointing to "yes" as the answer.

Something I'm reminded of every day I log onto the Internet: There are thousands of liberals who will never forgive anyone who worked for/supported Bernie Sanders & who hope all who did suffer for this allegedly unforgivable sin. They hate you more than they dislike Trump.

The number of people who somehow still, in this day and age, seem to fully believe that they are immune to propaganda, marketing, or other psychological influence and will never ever be duped or otherwise convinced to believe or maybe even Do a silly thing is honestly just astounding to me.

watching how quickly all this is happening and thinking back to the senate saying they can't act without permission from the parliamentarian

one great mystery of our age is how the only way to motivate rich people to work is to give them loads of money for no reason but the only way to motivate poor people to work is to take away loads of their money for no reason

Is America losing the ability to grow our own food? www.thebignewsletter.com/p/is-america...

how is trump doing all these things. where is the parliamentarian

so hey did we get those litterboxes out of the school bathrooms or did someone eat all the relevant cats or where are we on this

my superpower for predicting things? paying attention to what people with power say and do

Anti-DEI is an attack on civil rights by segregationists. Most white "allies" are completely silent while segregationists attack Black people and our civil rights. These silent "allies" without a shred of shame or self-awareness, fully expect Black voters to make sacrifices to save them at midterms

Kuwasi Balagoon on defining "the left"

You know why we Germans are so pedantic about data protection? Someone around 90 years ago went through all records available, selected people with certain criteria, with the help of IBM, and then killed them all. We don't want to be on any list. And now the US Gov and Musk is trying to get […]

Been saying it all along. None of this started with Trump, he's just the best bull to bust up the china shop. As soon as he tires himself out or dies, Vance'll be the new guy, and after him, another, ad nauseum. It's not about the face. It's the rest of this ugly monster we need to know about.

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

Look, if something bad were happening, then the prominent columnists I prefer for their calm refutation of panicky warnings from leftists and constitutional scholars would tell us to view events with alarm.

It's not for me, a non-Christian, to declare who is or is not a Christian. But I think more non-Christians need to understand that among the many sects of Christianity, there are some for whom His teachings are not the important thing about Jesus. Lecturing them about that tends to fall flat.

What if there were a coup, the US government fell to a drug-addled oligarch who seized control of our money, secrets, and levers of power, and Corporate media did not report on it?

As things get worse, we are going to get progressively more angrily frustrated at our inability to reach and hurt the people making things worse and that’s going to increase the urge to attack anyone we *can* reach, indiscriminately We really, really need to not give in to that urge
